thinking about going BL with my revo... best things? - 10.10.2008, 02:12 AM

im thinking about going bl with my revo around christmas or little later, so my Q is:
  • best esc
  • best motor
  • best batt
  • i need the conversion kit but cant find it

so what would be the best, i only need to go around 45mph (so i know im not down grading lol)

and whats with the mmm? problem salved? or what? lol

im sorta hoping not so spent to much, no useless things

will i need to get upgraded tranny gears? where a link?

thanks, sorry for all the Q's but yeah, i feel like such a newb on this forum.

if you want the best it will cost you a BUTT load of money

if you want something that will work and work well then you can save a TON of money.

theres the cheap setup 9xl
mm esc
4s zippy/true rc batt
250-300 (depending on new-used

techno conversion kit? http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...oducts_id=1972

mediocre setup medusa motor
MMM (reason for mediocre is that it is not full proof yet)
maybe some cheaper enerland battery packs
3-400

BEST setup neu
id say mgm for now since MMM is not perfect
evo 30s
around 700 depending on esc and batteries...

whats the chaeapest with lipo, going 40mph?

so 700 is just the motor esc and batt? then i would also nee the conversion kit and the charger.... ohh, pooh, lol, this is gunna cost alot more than i first thot.... 700 plus min 120 for charger and the kit is like 125 bucks so that puts me at 700+120+125=945. but if i gt that uch money my parent WILL say "ben you have to get a real car first! dont spend that on the rc" lol

but if i ask for cash for the christmas then also for my bday that will put me at = not close enough :(

well i'll sit on it for now... maybe ill say w/nitro idk, i do like the sound and smell.

I'll give it a shot.

You can get the TeknoRC convesion kit $145

The Castle creations MMM ESC $145 (if it breaks, Castle will replace it)

RCM pinion 13t $12

Medusa Motor MR-036-060-2000V2-5 $115

ZIPPY-R 4800mAh 25C 6S1P Lipo $118

Use THIS charger $57

and THIS power supply $18

Using a 13t pinion and a 40t spur you should get the speeds you want;
Differential Ratio: 2.8461538461538462
Transmission Ratio: 1.8333333333333332
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 40
Pinion Tooth Count: 13
Total Voltage: 22.2
Motor KV: 2000
Tire Diameter (inches): 5.9
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 110
Motor coil Ω: 0.006
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 3.08 : 1
Total Ratio: 16.05523 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 18.54 inches (470.8 mm)
Total Motor Speed: 43080 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 47.1 mph (75.65 km/h)
Estimated Adjusted Speed: 44 mph (71 km/h) - 6% loss
Effective KV Value: 1940.54
KT constant: 0.68 oz-in/A
Motor Torque: 0.39 ft-lbs
Final Torque: 6.22 ft-lbs
Final Power: 2442 watts (3.3 HP)

I kept the gearing kinda low because those motors are a bit smaller side for the application. But have a better rep than Feigao. I'm using the "Novak Method" to compensate for motor size. (Use a higher kv motor geared low.)

That gets you to $610 before shipping.

I used a "bottom" line.

Don't forget that with the MM you will have to use and external BEC.

Cheapest Route:

MM with BEC: Used can be had for under 130
Feigao 7XL: 60-80
Zippy 4s Lipo 120-150

It can be done for under 350 but you will need to take your time to find good deals.

You can also talk to Lutach about picking up one of his 6s ESC's. The are good and come with a program box and inexpensive for what you get.

so is this a pretty reliable system? i know with the mmm, but other than that?

will i have a ton more touque? lol, brushless so yeah, most likely.

and will i need any fans? does the system get hot?

so i will have 3.3hp, how much hp is the 3.3?

i think that brought my hopes up!

so do you think for every thing is gunna be around 650 for every thing including shipping? or more for shiping?

and thank you guys for all of your help! :D

so im hoping i'll be able to get this stuff 4 christmas :D or around christmas... right now i know a way to get about 400 bucks, darn! 250 off still... butthen the money from christmas and possible for my b-day. but thats like in feb! like 4and a half months away grr...! but ill beable to get money for working and stuff durring that time period...

EDIT: how would i wire in the brakes and the motor? how would it be wired the right way?

**Time to demonstrate why I was banned from the idiot forum**

This is not the traxxas forum....

Here's a novel idea; try looking around the forums here for a little while, especially the 'Brushless' and 'Revo' sections, and look at the gazillion Revo conversions. If you do this, you might actually be able to figure out your own setup without asking the usual idiotic "what am best motor/esc/battery?" questions that are driving me the brink of insanity.

Here's another useful thread with tons of setup ideas in it, just zero in on the revo setups and hey-presto: CLICKY

< /rant>

Might be worth lookng at the 'posting and you' thread in the general section too...

Hey stud.. look at you go!

LOL I was banned from taxxas's site as well; reason: Wrong attitude I think when I made some noise about your ban one of the op's took offense :)

PS Im stumblin aka 1fasterevo; when stumblin was banned I decided to use a new email and get a new nick.. but after this last ban a say Fukum' their forum will loose a lot of popularity w/o any of us keeping all the newbs in line and pushing their products.. I already sold one of my e-revo's and Im running a converted 8ight buggy and 2/3 through building a etruggy as well..

Lol, don't hold back, tell us how you really feel!

Everyone pretty much listed the typical options. The only thing I want to add is that I highly doubt the nitro 3.3 has 3.3HP. Maybe peak, it might touch something close to that, but at low rpms (which is where all engines start off), it probably has closer to 0.1HP. BL is a whole 'nother thing; it has max torque right off the line. I wouldn't go by any misleading marketing specs - those guys can make anything sound good.

As to what you get for a setup; don't cheap out because you'll pay for it in the long run. Always best to buy right once than buy wrong twice.
