This is just a teaser, but I've thought of resurrecting the EDF-powered GTP in light of this new forum we have here. I think it would be a sweet "Project-X". A lot of you probably remember when I first had the idea. It never really got started because I didn't have the funds to buy what I needed. I still don't and that's why this is a teaser thread. I REALLY WANT TO BUILD IT! I just can't until I have about $2000 in liquid assets. So it may take a while.

Or have a servo actuated deflector like real jets use to slow down. That would be sweet.

Naw, no parachute. Sorry. Definitely mechanical brakes. Though I want to put one on each wheel, if possible. Instead of just one or two on the center dogbones.

A cheaper alternative to that combo would be to get the EDF unit alone:

Buy a KB-45 XL motor with a kv that will net you a max of about 30,000 RPM with the desired voltage, and buy my HV-110 .

The KB-45s get kinda hot don't they? I'm using one for a power drill conversion and it heats up very quickly. I know the high voltage will be better for efficiency, but how much better? Would I still get 10 lbs. of thrust from it?

If you're using the KB-45 in a power drill, I'm guessing it is way undergeared (over-revving). Obviously power drills are designed with brushed motors, which are typically much lower powered than a brushless motor of the same size.

If the motor were to hit 30,175 RPM, it should give 12.33lb of thrust as noted on the last link I posted. Thrust should be proportional to RPM.

I was thinking about the wasted power versus a more efficient motor. I know it's possible to get the same thrust, but it would use a lot more power since I'd need a higher-Kv motor to make up for the losses.

A Neu would definitely be a better non-budget minded motor
