My E-Revo Conversion - V3 lives.... -
10.26.2008, 04:30 PM
This is my third major revision to my E-Revo. I first bought my 2.5 Revo used from a guy on the Traxxas forum back in mid 2005, and I ran it in nitro form for about a year. The original conversion on it was done back in August of 2006, then V2 around January of 2007. It lived in V2 state for about a year and a half - the only real change was dumping the MGM/Fiego in favor of a Novak 4.5 system (this was due to a small electrical glitch often called a "short" that burned up my UBEC and fried something in the MGM).
Heres a couple pics of V1 and V2:

Notice the Lexan Battery trays. G-Maxx single speed, Fiego 10L, MGM 10012.
Also, used some of that Aluminum Solder stick to weld things such as the ESC mount. That mount is still being used today...so there is some validty to that soldering process.

New Battery Trays made from aluminum, including Nerf Bars. I originally made them using the aluminum soldering stuff. But the loads were too high for it to hold up.

My last paint scheme that I'm using, this one is a Crowd Pleaser II body. Painted it this last July, body is already trashed!

Now for V3. I have to thank some of the guys who helped with parts, either purchased or "paid forward": Art1K for the diffs, Gee for some of my gearing, and Dafni for the chassis.
New 3.3 chassis (wow, theres lots of room!), Revo spec slipper, Aluminum diff internal and external cases, Neu 1515 2.5D, MMM, A123's (notice the HUGE 3S2P packs), RPM TrueTracs, E-Revo center shafts, E-Revo Reciever Box, Spektrum DX3, HITEC 5955, Badlands, Ofna 17MM hex's, titanium shocks (50wt, progressive valves, AND Black springs in the rear, and it still wont stay up). Teckno Wing - I'm going to replace it with the Traxxas mount which seems to be more durable.
Currently geared 25/68. Got some room to play either direction depending on which batteries I end up running.

I dont have any idea. I should send it back ot them one of these days. I dont have any plans on using it, but I could get rid of it if it were actually working.
Some issues I still have to resolve with this set up:
1) rear suspension. I am really getting frustrated with the Revo shocks. I'm likely much too heavy for what they were designed for, so I need to find something with more resistance in them. With the 2.5 setup, it was the front end that I couldn't keep off the ground, now with it stretched to 3.3, the rear wont rebound. I just put the progressive pistons in this morning, and moved up to 50WT, but its still not enough. I used the 1.0 pistons (the middle). Maybe I need to drop down to the smallest holes, and go up in weight on the oil even more. I think I'll also set it up with the P3's to see if they help some too.
2) I think my ESC mount has out lived its usefulness to me. With the MMM, the wires are so stiff, and they end up sticking up so high that the body doesnt want to fit very well. I know the E-Revo body is rather low, but I'd like to get everything down as low as I can. It looks like there might be room down on the top of the chassis right below where it sits right now. That will also force me to do something different to clean up the wiring.
3) I really need to decide if I am going to go to lipo or not. The 3S A123's are just too damn big, and too heavy. I tried to fit a 4S Zippy in the trays yesterday, but it was too long. I need to stick with 5S or 6S with this motor, but a bigger decision is do I run 3x2 and 3x3 or just go with a 5 and a 6? The issue I come back to is if I were to puff a cell when running two packs, I can still run with a different set up, rather than having all my eggs in one basket.
The MMM V2 (with updated software) seems to operate good although I havent yet put more than half a pack through it. The combo accelerates well, is very controllable at low speeds. I do need to soften up my steering, 'cause at whatever the top speed is right now, I have a hard time keeping it going straight, and I overcorrect badly.

You are correct - but I think the wing mount is a Teckno, isnt it?

No, it's a JConcepts. It looks like a Tekno because JConcepts basically took the design and changed it a little. Here's a pick of the Tekno with a CRT .5 wing on it.

Sweet Job on the V1-V3 custom metal trays, Not just another open the bag and bolt on Tekno Conversion. Looks like you just pealed the clear paint mask off that body, Nice and clean.

Yes, you are correct. I'd better quit bashing on Tekno, then. The mount is crushed down, closing up the holes where the mounting screws are. Landed on the lid too many times!

I can't count how many times I've been tempted to purchase the bolt on stuff. Escpecially when you read the threads about guys that get their parts in, and in a few hours its up and running, while I'm spending a week fitting up and remaking each part 5 times. But when I started this one 2+ years ago, there wasnt any of that stuff available. Yes, the paint was only a few hours old.
