A litle help, motor size - 10.31.2008, 06:45 AM

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a motor for my buggy conversion, and I came across this on Hobbycity:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4880

It says its an XL motor, but is it similair to the XL motors sold here, or is it a slimmer motor?
Thanks,
Matt

The Medusa are the best bang for your buck period.. the v2 2000kv 60mm is perfect for a buggy w/o any heat issues, and they are super effecient almost to neu's levels for 1/2 the price. http://www.medusaproducts.com/Motors/036-V2.htm

I'd buy a Medusa motor, but I really don't have the money. It would be nice, but I don't mind gearing down a bit on a Feigao as I'm not looking for a super fast setup.

Not a bad motor for the price. If you don't want to spend the money for a MedUsa it'll have to work. On 4s-5s geared for ~35 MPH it should do fine IMO, just make sure to get one of Mike's XL-sized heatsink clamps to cool it and keep the endbells together.

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea, well I need to order the motor mount, pinion and BEC from here anyway.

The car is a Hobao Hyper 7, known as Ofna in the states.

i dont recommend that motor. I have had many of them and nothing but bad luck. They have the power but they dont have the life. I had to gear way down to keep it cool enough and bearings are junk in em. I know the medusa is more but well worth it to save for it. better yet is a neu but the medusa will be jsut fine for less.

I'm willing to take the chance, I've had 2 feigao's and they have both been fine for me. I only have £120 to finish my project, and a Medusa is £75, so it really isn't affordable for me.

Fair enough, even if it only lasts a few months by then you should have the money for a better motor right? I have a 6XL in my Hobao/Ofna Hyper 7 TQ right now. Haven't been able to run it much because I lost one of the front drive cups (the one on the diff pinion gear) but I've driven it around a little on the floor and it seems to work fine (it'll probably never get bashed with this motor, I'm hoping to have my 70mm Medusa by the time I order the new drive cup).

It's too bad you live overseas, if shipping were cheaper I'd probably just send you my 6XL.
