Hyperion EOS0610i Net Question - 11.18.2008, 06:27 AM

Recently bought a new Hyperion EOS 0610i Net Charger. While charging it has never got to 100% full charge. Gets to about 97% and then comes up with BLC. Does this mean the Balancing doesn't start till 97% charge. What does everyone set their TCS to. I get sick of waiting for 100% TCS?

mine does this every once in a while. It is something with the balancer. I freaked out one day and immediately unplugged the battery and test each individual cell with my multi meter and none were low nor high. So i plugged it back in and the charger finished it no problem. Also on my trakpower packs i have to start the charge with the balancing OFF then once it is charging plug the balancer connections in and will be fine. Other wise it will say battery connection error. Cant remember the acronym but that is what the error means. Also i found if it glitches out just remove all power to the charger and let it sit a minute then try it again.

I fly, I drive, but most of all I crash.

I set mine to 100% TCS. The only problem I had before was due to the power supply not providing enough amperage(MRC 977 power supply). No problem after I start using a 20A power supply (Pro-peak).

I think it is a 10A power supply (cant remember) but it can charge at 5 amps no worrys just when it goes to 97% TCS is comes up saying BLC and starts chargering a .3Amp or something

A 10A supply running at a constant 12v can only supply 120w. Chargers are around 80% efficient, so that is only 96w available for the cells. At 4s 5A, that is reaching the limit (84w). However, at 10A, the supply output voltage is probably dropping. So, if it hits, say 11v, that limits your charge level even more.

And it makes sense that it does this towards the CC/CV threshold since the power requirements are highest then.

That said, I have an old Hyperion EOS7i which displays a different error message ("voltage too high") near the CC/CV threshold when charging lipos at anything above 3.8A. I can charge at whatever current, but when the voltage gets to ~4.0v/cell, I have to drop the charge current to 3.8A. But in my case, it is a charger defect. Works fine at high currents with NiMHs though, so it is indeed a defect. You charger may simply have a similar defect.

But the battery should be right to take off at 99% TCS and use or is it best to leave it?

Ended up working out that the TCS when completed was set out continue instead of end. So the 10A power supply seems to be fine after all

fyi i set mine @ 95%. doesnt seem to make much of a difference, and all the cells are within 0.002v of each other without balancing... why bother waiting for nothing!
