2 new V3s, only one survived... - 11.22.2008, 10:23 PM

Well i got josh's v3 for the st-rr build and i did the update, set it up, got to track charge the lipo, all was perfect, soo smooth and just absolutely VIOLENT acceleration with the 1515 2.5d and mike new 5s2p 5000 lipo.

but it only lasted for 10 minutes.... and when the remote cahnged hands to brad he made it to the corner (abotu 10 feet) and it died silently, i thought it was the switch but after trying to get it to come back on it just wasnt working, so we even opened the case (very gently, didnt use any damn screw drivers or anything) to check the switch wires and the lead to the rx, after not finding anything wrong i cut the switch off and elminated it (soldered wires together), still nothing, not even a light, it doesnt get any lights or anything when plugging it into the castlelink either..... only thing i can find is that when we had the case open we plugged in the battery and the BEC coil got VERY hot imediately, was up to 150 within 3 secs (it was only 50 degrees airtemp).

Brads V3 he got also today and it ran flawlessly in his 808 on 5s with a 1512 2.5d. They are both extremely smooth and worked awesome just josh's died first pack and i think brad ran his 3 packs without any issues.

How soon can we get the V3 replacement from castle this one will be leaving here monday morning piority mail but we'd like to have one asap its pretty rough explaining to a nitro guy that he jsut dropped alot of money letting me convert his truck and then only get to drive it for 8 minutes, he was grinning ear to ear the whole time he had the remote but it was a big dissappointment to him and me also.

0o a BEC failure! Have you tried powering it up via a Rx pack and the Rx? It sounds like the BEC coil is shorted if it's heating up like that and not outputting power to the other electronics... BrianG had a thread a while back on how to fix a busted BEC circuit. Hopefully he will reply here. If all else fails send it back to Castle and wait it out. Maybe you'll prefer to send it in first, I ALWAYS try to fix things before I claim warranty service.

yea i know its a fluke the connections are good we plugged brad up and it started up fine, i double checked ALL my solder joints when i did them becasue i knew the monster would put out some serious juice. its internal nothing we did, it actaully died when it was being very easily driven, i gave it hell when i first threw it down to test it....

my mod1 mm ran strong of course, after 20 minutes it was 74 degrees, my 1512 3d was only 96, and my protek 5s was at 65, its was only 50 outside today.

You said the coil get extremly HOT ? So it's very likely the BEC's switching MOSTFET is dead and became an equivalent short wire. That means the Battery voltage will apear at BEC output. You'd better test the BEC out, wish it hasn't hurt your RX.

And servo...

BTW: modding the V3 is not recommended as it will void the warranty.

is it not the bec? after it died, nothing we did got any lights, tones, or response out of it at all like the switch was off, but we eliminated that, and checked all leads, and still nothing plug up a new MMM and the rx arms servo comes on and the new MMM starts right up.....

ive already boxed the MMM up to ship tomorrow, i dont really care whats wrong with it i just gotta make sure we get a replacement by next thursday.... for the 5-6th

That's pretty much what happened on mine. I just boxed it all up and sent it to Castle. I'm hoping to get a replacement by the time I return from vacation .
