It started as a slash chassis but it grew into a Slash with shiny extended arm, aluminum shock towers, TRX big bores, an Integy aluminum transmission case. Normal growth for and RC but could or would the pressure of going brushless take it's toll on his young RCs mental stability. Shaken already to the near edge of a nervous break down. He has repeatable been forced to watch other RCs be dismanteld and to not return to their previous form. Would all of this make him fear the open space of outside. Would it drive this impressionable young RC into the closet were it secretly would want to be a Shelf Queen. .

Prelude

Well for the lack of a better forum section at RCM I am facing my fears and putting the Slash Chassis build here in brushless. Because it is brushless and this is where BrianG put his.

Prelude II

I bought the chassis back when parts starting becoming available for the slash. Plan was to slowly put one together from it's parts and the spare parts I had from the rustlers and stampedes that have come and gone in my life.

Fear of being fogotten

The build wasn't speeding along for sure. It started to be more like the puzzle that was started with good intentions, but then something distracted me, which is easly done. Like the puzzle I would stop and check out a couple peice to see it they fit then would move on to what I was doing until I got distracted. I gave up on the random stops at the LHS to see what parts they had for the slash. Wasn't producing any that I needed and I always seemed to walk out with a new set of tires. So I went ahead and ordered tha parts I was wainting on.

Braces

The chassis braces. Yeah, that's what I had been waiting on for 3 months. The only different between those and the stampedes seems to be the bellcrank post. Could have probably made some from the right size bolt and proceded but I wasn't in a real hurry to get it running. Until the sun started going down earlier and the smell of burning leave were in the air. So project Slash chassis was moved to the front burner. Where it sat for another month. The smell of the leaves burning were gone and the sun hardly ever shines. It now almost winter and running the RC outside can be painful at times. Yep, it time to get on it now. Here's some pictures of the yound chassis coming of age. Thus the title.....

What am I?

Got it setup to run the sidewinder on 3s with a Fiegoa 12s (wish they would of picked a name that was easier for me to remember how to spell) with the Jato spur 58/14. Got a HiTech 5645MG for the servo and using a DSM receiver and TX. Big bores on all fours. Fours? Had to make it rhyme. With some of those oh soooo baaad Horsies hiding them. Have dual rate springs on the back and just some stock spring on the front. The arms are the extended FLM arms for a pede/ruster. Using the FLM extended CVDs. The shock towers are from STRR or STRC. The tranny case and bulkhead are from Integy. Misbehavens wheely bar for safety reasons.

I don't feel right

It has taken some time to get the suspension tuned in to where it handles better then when I first had put it together. The slash tires just don't seem like the belong or do well on the RC they were designed for. Seems that is one of the first things people changed. The slash/slayer tires work great on the LS10.

I haven't had a whole lot of time to experiment with different tires or even run it this slash yet. As UPS would put it "Due to adverse weather conditions". It seems to have a lot of wind drag. I am thinking if I have the fan blow in the other direction it should do much better and still keep the living room cool.

What's wrong with my body!

I tried the body from my slayer on it but it just didn't do anythng for me with the tires I had on it. Just seem too big or something. I am using a body for my e-maxx. Added some LEDs to it that plug into the 3s. All the wires are in the body sections so just need to plug it in.

You might have notice the chains on the tires and the plastic I added to the bottom. Been stuck inside house for a couple of days. Due to adverse weather conditions. The snow plows are making it to the residential areas and I finally got the street outside the house plowed. I took it out ot try it but the chains were hitting the body. So instead of fixing it I grabed a different RC and went out to play. I mean went out to test the RC. The plastic on the bottom was just messing around seeing what I could come up with what would go through or on top of the snow better. It isn't lexan so it will break too easy to be practicle. I would use a lexan if I was going to try for something more durable. Also tried a couple of slash-splasj type gaurds on the inside of the chassis. Bent a peice that goes around the front and then a couple of side boards for the esc. I've been meaning to get the slasher receiver box for a couple of hte RCs.

The fan was for amusement only. No actual fan is being used on this Slash. If that fan was being used on the slash. Then the names in this thread would have changed to protect me. Actually this thread would never had been written.

Is the plastic you used acrylic? AKA plexiglass?

Looks like an awesome snow machine, I hear those chains work really well in the snow. I just put paddles on my Rusty and don't bother with waterproofing

Differet not the Rc but the thread. It the acrylic stuff. It won't last a jump on there. Call it practice with the torch. I did find the my nice gloves I got to use with the RC tx. It catches on fire real fast. At least the to layer does.

Didn't make it too far in the snow with it. But the chains do help a lot. But with this much snow nothing works until the plows go through.

Interesting. I hadn't thought about protecting the bottom like that. Thanks for the inspiration.
While setting my slash up for a trip to the mountains(snow), I came up with something that looks like it'll work pretty well.
When I cut the desert rat shell for my e-revo, I tried to cut it out in a single cut to keep as much of the scrap in one piece as I could.
So far, I've used the bottom half of the rear wheel well cut-outs including about 1/4" of the flange as rear arm debris guards on the e-revo and for the slash, I ended up trimming the front and rear clips to fit upside-down encompassing the inner tub of the slash. I cut a notch in the rear for the motor wires to pass through.
The flange on the bottom of the desert rat shell sorta snaps under the front body posts to hold the front end in place and the flange around the sides is cut in such a way that it presses up against the ridge along the stock slash shell that aligns with the bottom of the side windows forming a seal.
There is a little bit of an air gap at the rear on the top, but I don't think much debris will get in there.

I'm thinking this kind of thing should be doable with most shell clippings if you keep as much of them intact as possible. Trim the front and rear halves to fit, zip-tie the halves together and you have a removable debris guard. :)
