1/8th buggy with MM?

i have 2 CEN matrix, one FRE that i race and the other one is a stock model as a spare for parts, Since i don't break to often :) i will convert it to electric, i was thinking to run it on zippy 4s 5000mah with one of my mamba max esc. i was looking for a feigao motor since i'm on a budget for this project (too many r/c's already)
any suggestion for the motor? L or XL
i will use the rc-monster motor mount and not sure about the battery tray... i might make one at home or i'll go with a rc-monster one.
for the ubec, also any suggestion?

On 4s go w/ a 9xl....if you can spend another $30- or so , go w/ a Medusa...http://www.rc-monster.com/brushlessmotors.php?pg=3 the 2200kv it is a much better motor..

magman I was going to say 7xl just because the formula 35000/14.8=2365 kv of a 7xl. I haven't had any experiece with the Fiegao xl motors. So I am just curious why you selected a 9xl? I did come to the conclusion the medusa 2200kv was also a better choice and gives some room to maybe run a 5s later on down the road. I don't think the XL really would do that.

I agree w/you Gee that the 9xl will not be a good 5s motor. I had a 4s 9xl set up on my mbx-5 and it ran fine...a tad hot as most xl motors do. The Medusa is a better all around motor....on 4s, a 2000 or 2200kv would work, but on 5s I would use the 1600kv for better efficiency and cooler temps.

Thanks. I've read the xl runs hot and makes sense that the 9xl would be a better choice. I have not had any of the Feigoa xl but I did waste some money on a couple of the KD toasters from accross the pond. They run real hot and are up for sale. Wouldn't sell them to anyone on here though. I'll take the voice of expereince over a formula any day. Thanks for the reply.

My pleasure...I still have my 9xl as a back up for my 1512.

ok thanks guys for the info, i'm not planing to go on 5s since i can buy 2 almost new 4s li-po from a guy locally, and i found the 9xl brand new for a good price.
any advice for a ubec? preferably one that i just plug on the esc and receiver since i will use the same esc during the winter on a 1/10 2wd buggy :)

Depends on how anal you are. No offense to you or any other one that thinks they are anal. Just joking around. But if your are just out bashing you can just make a deans lead/extension that has the UBEC soldered to it. Then just plug it in line when you are using it. If that makes any sense. I used them that way when I was sharing UBEC between a couple RC a while back. Worked fine for messing around. Also use a servo extension and remove the red wire from it and leave all the wires intact on you esc. You probably already knew that.

No problem. The most effecient way to run is to have very little resistance, short wires, direct soldering of esc to motor if possible. Minimal connectors like deans or banana plugs. Some people follow it to a T and are downright "anal" or "overly concerned" about it being as effecient as possible. Rightly so, they will get the best performance vs all the connections you and I might have with all the dean connectors. If you are a racer it is real important to run effecient as you can. For bashing it is not as important. Just keep in mind an esc acting up might just be as simple as one of the deans isn't connecting up correctly or the soldering joint on one is loose. You'll be fine. Sorry for throwing you off.

Thanks Gee again for the info! No i will not race this buggy so i am looking for the very best set up so a ''standard'' set up will be just fine! but i will not use and banana plugs between the esc and motor, i race in 1/10 offroad and everything is short, no connector :)
