02.19.2009, 09:37 AM
Anyone seen these? I would link ya'll but I'm on my PS3... anyways, they're basically the Losi Lipo charger adapters, but appearently better. I'm sure you can find them by googling "lipo dapter". Any info would be greatly appreaciated!!

I have one that's unopened that I'll unload cheap. Can't say one way or another about the function as I never used it.

The one I have for A123 only - so its not waht pedeboi was looking for. If anyone else wants it, let me know. I had to open the mailing envelope to see what it was, otherwise, its brand spankin' new.

I'm right here.
I've never had one of those in person, but since it hooks to a CC charger (NiMH), it can only do the CC portion of the charge. If it tried to do the CV stage, the charger would error out (because the voltage would keep increasing rapidly in an attempt to maintain the CC) and/or the daptor would get quite warm. The only thing it does is terminate the charge based on a cell voltage rather than a delta peak.
Since it does the CC portion of the charge only, you don't quite get the full charge. How much the battery is missing will be determined by the battery. I've had some batteries that don't take much charge at all past 4.2v/cell, while some take up to ~15% of the charge during CV stage.

The higher end (higher "true" C rating) tend to take less charge during the CV stage from what I've seen. The lower C rate packs (like older MA) tend to take closer to the ~15% of their charge during CV.
So, you can cheap out on the charger and get really good packs to compensate for the adaptor, or just get a decent true CC/CV charger and not worry about which packs you can charge (and get full capacity). I think you can tell which I would go with.

lol, no one ever said this was a cheap hobby. If you want something your wallet won't complain about, try finger painting instead.
Seriously, a good charger can be considered an investment. If properly chosen and used right, it can be used for ALL charging needs; r/c use, your car battery, the slew of NiMHs used throughout the house, etc. The adaptor thingy is a neat little device to throw in your pit box to allow you to throw a pack on a NiMH-only charger in a pinch, but I wouldn't use it for primary charging.

ok BrainG, how about the comparison between the older and newer versions? The guy i'm buying from has the old, lipo only, and what he called "The old non-SMT version" . Any info on "non-SMT"?

I don't, nor have I ever, had one, let alone two, to compare. I'm just thinking about how they would theoretically work.
