Motor Choices for Slash - 03.05.2009, 02:59 PM

Hey guys well I wan to convert my rustler vxl roller into a slash later n when i get some cash, but I need to decide on a motor. I am going to be using a mamba max esc on 3s lipo. I was thinking about a vxl motor but not shure. I will be using a fan/heatsink on the motor I use. I want to stick with 1/8" shaft because i dont want to buy 5mm for this. LMK what you guys think is good motor that wont be giving me heat issues with my setup.

I was told the Medusa 36-50-3300 in the 1/8th inch shaft works great!

I was doing some research and I am stuck between the 3300kv and 4800kv Medusa. I have also heard that these medusa motors have pulled them self apart so I think if I get the medusa I will run the heatsink/clamp mike is working on for the medusa motors.

If you want basic speeds (~35mph), then a Medusa 36-50-3300 on 3s or the 2200 on 4s are great. If you want higher speeds, go for the 36-60 with the same kv/voltage combinations.

I run the 50-2200 on 4s and it stays cool all the time, but am too planning on getting the HS/clamp, just for the clamp feature.

In your case its different your crazy JK. I think ill go with the 3300kv medusa 36-50, I to want the hs/clamp just for the clamp purpose. (dont want to be going mmmmmm.........BOMM!...motor rear endbell starts flying)

lol, 4s on a Slash may sound like a lot, but it's set up for runtime, not speed. It's geared conservatively, and the ESC settings are set mild. I figure it would be more efficient to run 4s @ 5Ah than to run 2s @ 10Ah.

I like the Medusa 3300 on 3s...I used 86/19 and 2 2200 3s batteries in parallel. Runs cool and long.

VXL is 3500 KV right....heck...can't remember now. Its a S can though.....so a nice L can motor around 3300-3500 would be nice. Not sure though which medusa fits under the L can motor spot.

Will the 60 series Medusa bolt up to the Slash with no mods? If so I would rather get that over the 50 series.

Unless you're doing some speed runs or your truck is all aluminum and heavy, the 50mm is all you'll need. I ran a 50 2200 in an 8th scale buggy with great results, they are very powerful motors.
