What To Do With a Stripped Motor Screw Hole? -
03.19.2009, 10:08 PM
Well, my ESavage's one motor 700Non-HO hole stripped.
I'm unsure how it was done, but it is.
The original 3mm screw doesn't fit anymore.
Is there anything I can do to fix it so I can use the original screw?

You can re-tap the hole to a slightly bigger screw. The AL cans are touchy @ times.

Great, I don't have a slightly bigger screw besides a Z632:

I assume you just try taking the motor off and try putting the screw in?
Or how do I retap it?

To re-tap, you need a tap and dye set. It is easy to do w/the right tools. You need to take your time and go slow as you re-thread.
I would not try to re-thread just by forcing a screw in.
Basically, w/a tap/dye set match up the threads of the screw you intend to use w/the correct tap. SLOWLY screw tap into the existing hole...screw about 1/2 turn than back the tap out. You will feel resistance as you screw the tap in...it is normal. Continue to work the tap in and out. When you are done, the tap should screw in as would a normal screw.

Not that I can think of that will work successfully. If you know someone who has a set...it would be your best bet IMO

I have used Helicoil, I havnt used this for a motor but in different applications I have and it amounts to a small spring you insert it into the existing hole and you have a new set of threads....its surprisingly strong

Whoo.
My dad ended up having a old metric set.
I literally had to blow off the dust it's so old.
It still worked :]
Found a screw less than 1mm larger, retapped it a little, and got it to fit!
YAY
Now to clean some shocks...
