This was actually tested for dragracers, but there might be some you who always wonder it it's possible. And for those that are scared to try a Sensored system, there is still hope. I used high kv sensored motors to test the limits of the beloved Mamba Max. I've tested the Mamba max with 12000kv(2.5T) motors, 11000kv(3T), 9800kv(3.5T), 8500kv(7T) motors with success. To do so, it is adviced to run additional low esr caps at the ESC voltage input to reduce ripple current. Mamba Max tested have four 330uF 35V panasonic caps added.
Motors tested were:
X10 LRP 7T >w/4s1p A123
X11 LRP 4.5T, 3.5T w/3s1p A123
X12 LRP 3.0T >w/2s2p A123
LT-2.5T >w/2S 6500mah maxamps
LT-3.5T >w/2S 6500mah maxamps
Orion 2.5 >w/2s2p A123
LRP X10 and X11 have the biggest rotors. So for dragracing, you might want to swap in the smaller diameter rotors for smoother takeoffs and reduced torque.
Shameless plugin for Lutach: His 120A hybrid 1/10 ESC that I'm still testing, doesn't break a sweat with the X12 LRP's. Even in a FLM Rustler!
Vehicles that these motors were tested in are: Dragster and a CRC pan car
