lipo low cell - 04.10.2009, 09:24 AM

Linc, or anyone else. what should i do here?

so I plugged in the problem lipo to my charger this morning. it had been down for about 2 days. plugged it in and checked the cell voltages first thing. this is what i got. 3.91, 3.9, 3.83 and yes it is on a balancer.

is the low cell bad? should i just turn it in to w 2 cell pack at this point? it has been charging for about 20 minutes now and the cells are at. in the same order 4.16, 4.14, 4.20

I would fully charge it and run it a few time, and keep a record of how out the balance is after you run it. You may have a weak cell, but if it does not puff when you run it you should be fine. As long as you balance it every time you charge and do not let that cell's voltage get too low when you run it you will get more use out of it.

I'm no lipo expert, Linc fixes mine for me but those numbers look pretty close to me. How's the pack performing?

the reaosn i ask is because. i only get like 10 minutes out of it before the lvc kicks in. then i test it and it is still showing 11.5 volts total. I will run it down again and check the cell individual numbers.

Sounds like the pack is being pushed beyond it's safe current specs. False LVC hits (indicating severe v drop under load) and cell imbalance are usually good indicators of that.

How about the lipo info and your setup info too. Sounds like you are pulling it too hard, but I need more info to advise...

it is a zippy 3s 20-30c 5000mah.

I am thinking it has a bad cell. I checked it after i ran it yesterday and one cell was down but returning by the time i got it checked. it was .3 away from the othersbut heading back up. so I am thinking it is a weak cell.

link, this was in my backslash converiosn. it is a slash running 1/8 truggy wheels and tires. on a mamba max and vxl motor.

geared. 22-76

I was going to ask if this was a zippy. One of my packs does the same thing, its a weak cell.

This is one of the most useful tools you can get. I wish Mike would carry them in the store.

Basically plug into balance tap and read the cell voltages. On my one pack, its like, 3.6, 3.62, 2.9 <---- weak cell.

If you have a 5K pack that only lasts 10 min, that one cell kicks it early, drops way low on V and trips LVC.

I like my zippies, but the poor QC is kinda pissing me off. Wondering if they are worth the extra little savings (vs say Neu or something) when they die early deaths. You can replace the cell, but what a pita.
