i was out running my 8ight, and i'm having a hard time describing what it's doing. The best way to put it into words is that it feels like the slipper clutch is too loose. (i know it dosen't have a slipper clutch) what do i need to do to get it not to feel like it's slipping so much?

Check over your diffs. Is there any strange noises coming from the car while you accelerate?

nope, it just feels like it's not grabbing the way it should. i tried different tires and that didn't help. the best way i can describe it is it just feels like maybe the center diff is too loose. i'm thinking i need thicker center diff fluid.

That sounds right.... do the front tires balloon up big when you gas it? Probably not anything stripped as you said it sounded normal..... could be tires slipping, but i think you'd notice the loss of traction.

usually when the front tires are spinning, you can tell because it's hard to control. just wants to go in a straight line.

Also your pinion grub screw could be loose, allowing the motor to rotate inside the pinion, making the car not take off as hard because the motor's shaft is spinning inside the pinion.

you hit the nail on the head. i couldn't tell the front was ballooning on the 8ight i was using because i was using those new thick rubber tires from losi that don't balloon until you hit 100mph. (new losi rally tires)

here's a pic:

so i put the stock tires back on and tried it again. the front tires got so big i thought they were gonna blow off the rim. the rear stayed normal sized.

he said running 6S geared as big as i was with a motor the size i was on 7K diff fluid using was why it was slipping so bad. it was over-powering the center diff.

He suggested trying 30K, so i'm gonna give that a go. Thanks for the advise everyone, much appreciated.

I thought I'd suggest getting a gyro for your buggy, might save some of those bump...dart...crash situations at warp speeds. I have a Futaba G190 which saved my speed buggy from lots of wanton destruction, I can recommend it. Good idea to have a faster servo with that too. Enjoy!

Are you thinking of strapping a GPS on those to get some mph numbers?

this is what i use, its as close to having a locked center as you can get while still having the protection of unloading

for my driving style, i went from 30-150K and i ended up using putty inside. now it handles like i want it to.
