what sort of snow vehicles is anyone running? - 05.18.2009, 12:36 PM

i know its summer but this is when i can work on it. i don't have the tools /experience / or time to make a true snow monster vehicle but my slash works very well and i can still run all winter. every snow bank, rut, drift and field becomes open for bashing. it great except for the trudge through the snow to flip it back over. i saw a snow rc once that had a solid rear axel and the front had shocks on the skies. anyone have any custom snow vehicles? With pics?
this summer i plan on putting shocks on the skies.

paint pens inside the lid for the fractals and the dots on top (a little hard to see) were done with bus window paper, it has a sticky back, i used it like a paint mask.

How did you get it snow proof?

Looks good btw! But do those 2 skis work better than normal wheels?

Do those skiis pivot at all? if so then mounting the shock on shouldn't be hard at all.

sorry, no snow vehicle to report here. Louisiana isn't exactly a white winter wonderland....

the piece over the motor is from a 3-D mouse packaging, i cut it out and painted it just like you would with a body. it keeps the snow from piling up on the motor, snow still can get in.
the slash comes with waterproof electronics. i am using a brushed motor for now orion 17t but when traxxas's waterproof brushless is available i will put that in.

i believe the skis work way better then tires. they glide over the snow instead of digging in.
snowmobiles have skis for the same reason, especially for the over 1 inch deep of snow, and here in vermont 2-3 feet is normal. here is a video not with the current motor set up just a stock 27t with worn brushes.

the pivot from straight up to horizontal. i also have some small shocks from a nitro on-road car. problem is that if you go up something steep the skis sometimes stay up so when you land they can dig in. i wish i had some video from the end of winter, skimming snow banks and fields, really wild.

one of my favorite shots.
