Soft or Hard clutch shoes? - 05.22.2009, 03:20 AM

so i finally made the switch to the clutch and raced with it tonight and loved it. but i am wondering if someone can explain what the different grades of aluminum do for performance. like soft, hard, medium clutch shoes.....which has better engagement? which has longer wear? etc. thanks.

In the nitro world, assuming you don't change the springs, soft will grab better, hard will wear better, medium is in between. Since we can run whatever we want, we chose hard for the best wear and instead adjusted the springs to change the grab characteristics. So basically, if you want more grab (punch in the case of electric), use the .7mm springs, it's very close to direct drive. If you want a little more breathing room around neutral for better control and traction, use .8 or .9mm springs. I'm using .8's.

As for shoe wear, we're all still on our first pair of shoes since we introduced the 3-shoe setup. A few of us have replaced bearings, but overall, you can expect months of running before having to replace much of anything.
