Race weekend report!

Hey guys, just got back from the race weekend (Hobbyworld Classic Race Weekend), and here are the results. I had a blast btw, and being the only electric there, I stood out from the crowd!

Friday:
Practice.... getting on average of 58 second laptimes.... very cold outside, about 12'C (54F) and very windy, couldn't even move my fingers right!

Saturday:
Qualifiers.... #1 - I got 2/7 on the first qualifiers round! (btw, this is my FIRST time racing!)
#2 - Placed 3/7 on the 2nd round.
#3 - Placed 2/7 on the 3rd round.

After the qualifiers, there were practice sessions, my laptimes went from ~58 seconds, down to about 48 seconds average, crashing on average once per lap.


SUNDAY:
Qualifiers... #4 - Placed 2/7 on this round.
#5 - During warm-up minutes, I unknowingly broke one of the steering servos at the triple jump, landing on a cribbing spike. Then, at the start line, I gunned it, immediately pulled away from the nitros, and then suddenly lost power... my pinion fell off! (15T/51T)

So in the mean time I borrowed a 965mg servo and put on a smaller pinion 13T (geared 35mph), it actually was still more than fast enough, and felt less squirrelly in the straight.


MT Class 'A MAIN' 30 minutes long

okay, so I used the 6s 4350mah Hyperion 25C packs, and swapped out at 15 minutes (I showed a pit guy what to do, he did great, took him ~15-20 seconds to swap packs)...


First 15 minutes of race I went from being in 4th place, to 3rd, then it was a very hot battle for 2nd place, then the 15 minutes mark came around, pit guy told me to bring it in.... get back going again, I'm in 4th place again, QUICKLY caught back up (nitro guys must have made a pit stop in that time) to battle for second place.... around the 28 minute mark.... I am in second place, in line for 1st position, he was about 2 corners ahead of me, gaining on him every lap. ( I crash quite a bit as well) at around ~24 minutes the truck SUDDENLY looses ALL communications, no steering, no throttle, nothing... yell at the marshalls to bring it in quickly, ran down to check it out, re-plugged it in, okay, have control again, shot her back out... was in 3rd at this point. Then 1/2 lap later it does it again! Bring it in, we QUICKLY swap packs and get going again, it's at the 27 minutes, I am in 4th place now!!! Truck is running fine now, I JUST about caught up to 3rd place, but no cigar by the end of the race!

Oh well, I had fun anyways! I think I did great for my first time racing, and would have done amazing if I never had the shutdown problems! My fastest lap during the MAIN was 44.9 seconds! The nitro truggies are around 40 - 41 seconds! Not bad I think!

Alright, now for temps! (Ambient temp on Sunday was 31'C (88F) )

During qualifiers: Motor: 110F
ESC: 95F
Batts: temp gun said 90F....

Immediately after the 30min MAINS

Motor: 126F
ESC: 105F
Batts: 96F

Here is the Revo setup:

-emaxx GM single speed trans
-Neu 1512/3D/F
-Quark, modified with 6s cap bank and FET heat spreader replacement
-6s Hyperion 4350mah 25C packs
-13/51 pinion/spur gearing (35mph)
-MT proline Bow-ties ties all 4 corners

My truck had some issues, such as the differentials being dry of diff fluid! So it did not handle near what it could have, and I had problems keeping it stable in the straight! The diffs wanted to "diff out", and I was running too high viscosity shock oil in the rear, 100wt.... and the CG is alot higher compared to the nitro guys. So come the bigger "CRUISE WEEKEND" race in August I should have the truck in great race worthy condition. I would like to get the E-revo chassis, and some good racing differentials. Also, I am wondering if a center diff would be better for racing? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
