bow tires Vs crime fighters - 02.04.2006, 06:49 PM

hello
i'm new to this site and also new to rc racing, I have an emaxx but i just got the gorillamaxx gear for it, next on my list is tires, i am thinking i will go 40 series
but it's a toss up between bow tires and crime fighters. i have heard that they are both good racing tires.can anyone help me with some info plz.

Welcome to the forum. For racing I'd stay away from the 40 series all together.The bow tie VS crimfighter debate would be dependent upon track conditions. Personally, it is my opinion that the crimefighter is more versatile. Another option that I like as well is the Panther boa's. I have them in C compound. C for clay tracks. Good luck.

can you please tell me why to stay away from the 40 series for racing?
I have heard that you get more control because the tire sits flush with the rim insted of ballooning out.

You will notice that the tires have a very low profile. The low profile does very little in helping the tire/wheel to absorb bumps and jumps. Think of 1/1 cars and the effect that the low profile 40 series has on bumpy roads, its a teeeth rattling ride. The low profile MT40 tires cause the truck to bounce around alot, less control. The crime fighters balloon very little, bow ties alot. A quality foam such as racers edge multi stage or trinity two stage will eliminate much of the tire ballooning and help the truck to handle better. The first thing to do when you get any proline tire is through away the foam, it is junk, to soft and will last less than a day before didintegrating. Some people tape their tires with packing tape to eliminate ballooning, although, many have found that the crimefighters do not need it when used with a good foam.

well papa, i would have to say that i disagree. 40 series are the best option for a mt for racing. they make the handling WAY more predictable, bite more, and balloon less. i would say 40 series crime fighters on 23mm velocity rims would be a good setup. i myself have 2 sets of cf and love them. i would tape the inside of them with duct tape just incase you have a very powerful truck.

I have some taped standard size Crime Fighters on my BL Savage that hook up great on every kind of dirt around here: bashing or on the track! My local track usually runs the Monster class right after watering down the hard pack blue groove clay surface, so it's a bit more mushy for our class than others, and the Crime Fighters will give great traction and still have a pattern that won't clog, whereas Bow Ties tend to just pack full of the sticky clay mud. I would say Bow Ties would be better for a strictly dry running on our track, but any time they wet it down go for the Crime Fighters.

Interesting..... The last National level race that I went to there was not a MT in the top mains running 40 series tires. The MT class went all the way to S main. I could be wrong but I do not recall seeing any 40 series tires at this event. Drivers like Adam Drake, Ryan Mayfeild, Ryan Lutz, Tyler Vik, MAtt Gosch.....where in the A main and none of them where on 40's or strapping their tires. However, These drivers were running Panther C Boas, or Crimes. :010:

remember, that the 40 series crime fighters JUST came out. most people at my local track also run standard crimes because they bought theres before the 40s came out and for the advantages that the standard crimes offer over the 40 series bow ties is worth the little decrease in handling.

thanks for your replies guys, some interesting reading there. I guess the jury is still out on the tires i will have to do some more reserch and will have to look into those Panther Boas as well.

why dont you have alook at the track were you intend to race and see what they are running . and have a look at mickia park as well allthough they are all nitro . could any body tell me if the tyres on nitro trucks handle any different to electric

i would certainly go with crimefighters. i had a set of bowties and the crimes did ALOT better.
g-man - the tires are gonna do the same thing if the conditions are the same. nitro vs. electric handling is gonna depend of the truck itself. its kinda like comparing bevis and butthead....

Me myself I like 40 series. They seem to corner better than the standard maxxx size. Crime fighters are a touch taller than the bowties so you have more sidewall on them.

What is better is largely a matter of opinion. The pros use the small, light tires because they are so talented and competitive that a little extra weight or slightly less turning ability can cost 10nths of a second, and ultimately the race. These guys are at the top of their game. A less seasoned driver may actually do a lot better with the 40 series tires, as they add stability and traction. I find the 40 series easier to drive myself, but I tend to race the smaller tires like crimefighters myself. Bowties work on our track as well, but the crimefighters seem to be the tire at the moment(haven't tried the boas yet).

with my driving ability anything that keeps it off its roof is a good thing, i think i'll go the 40 series, and thankyou every one else who replied you have all been very helpful.

I SAY BOW TIE 40 SERIES ALL THE WAY!!!:018: :018: there just good for all round grip for around 20.50$ a pair (2)
is it a m3 compound or an m2 compund?:013:
