Picked up a new airbursh from HF and finally finished some lids - 07.21.2009, 02:44 AM

Instead of three different threads. One in the truggy, buggy, and Savage forums. Thought one would provide enough laughter for everyone.

I've had these lids for over 6 months now and couldn't find the motivation to paint them. Every time I grabbed one of my airbrushed they didn't work right. I picked this up from harbor frieght. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=93506
I own the other two they make also. I like this one the best so far. It is a simple airbursh, no clogging up, or problems with it at all. May not be as precise with the spray that some of the good painter here need. Worked great for me and gave me the motivation to finish the lids up. Although I found the motivation I still wasn't really in the mood as the finished products will prove. They were rush jobs (Three in a weekend) and as you can tell from the amount of stickers I put on them they were not done very well. I tried the paint on masking stuff this time around. For the simple paintjobs I do. I think the masking tape would of been simpler and less time consuming. So if anyone is hesitant about showing off thier painting skills. You should feel much better about yours after looking at my work.

Don't know where the paint scheme came form on the strr (made it up as I went actually) but it was so bad I didn't want to waste my good Kyosho STRR stickers on it. I got like 6 pages of Losi Eight sticker off ebay awhile ago so they got used (and whatever else I could find) to distract from the paint job instead. Yuck! I almost tried out the brake fluid trick and started over on it.

The Red Mustang body for the E-maxx in the background was the first one I ever painted a couple of years ago.

The Slayer body is on my Savage XL. Took some hacking to get it to work with the large moabs on it. It pretty much towers over my others rcs. That body on it looks much better when the RC is in action. Gives it a different look then the stock truck body for sure. The body post are as far up as I could get them. I might be able to drop them down one notch.

The Losi 8ight buggy turned out okay until I took the dremmel to it. It would look better with a white wing on it. Didn't even think about the new black wing I had when I started painting it.

Funny how the pictures go of your rcs. The first few RC's I got I must have 150 pictures of them each. The latest RC I have the Savage XL. I've had for a few months and I have only taken 10 pictures of it. Just like photos of children I suppose.

I added the photobucket links if you want to laugh some more. The the XL has some different angles to show how the Slayer body fits on the XL. It may not of needed as much trimming as I gave it but haven't had any body/tire rubbing going on.

Hey Gee nice work on the lids. Looks like you have been kind of busy with painting lately. They really do look pretty good for a first timer.

Yeah, with a few more tries you will have it down pat!

I hate painting rc bodies, the whole reverse painting crap just pisses me off. I prefer to paint rc boats, and just buy rtr pre-painted rc bodies... Big props to you for painting your own.

I also have that airbrush, been sitting in the box since new on my shelf, lol! I have a 500 dollar sata that I need to get some time with. I mainly use a sata mini jet (looks like a shrunken gravity feed gun) when I do the boats. I do have a few rc bodies to paint, so maybe i will wow you guys with a single color, no detail at all body!

I do better with simpler designs, one or two colors at the most. Almost all the ones I have painted have had the same pattern to them stolen from someone else. Simple design simple mind.

That boat you painted was impressive. Not only the painting but your ability to design with the tiki theme. That showed us a side of the pimp that we never knew existed.

Thanks Guy, I just kinda threw the tiki theme boat together. My next paint job will be a 55" boat, gonna do the miami vice theme on it. I might just paint it to match the chris craft in the pilot, or do a theme off the miami vice logo. Not sure yet. I still have to put all of the new hardware on the boat and set it up, so it may be a while.

I like "The Posse" , matching bodies are cool!
