Hobbywing 4465sl 44mm motor - 07.26.2009, 12:05 AM

Anyone had or tryed one of these bigger hobbywing 2000kv 44mm motors as they are supose to have more tourqe and run cooler like the cc mmm motors as opposed to the 36mm 2045kv feiago motor i have i think has just died after 3 months.

Haven't tried one, but since it's quite a bit larger, it should generate a lot more torque and thus will have less trouble pushing around whatever it is you're pushing. The price for one starts to inch pretty close to a Medusa or CC/Neu, so personally I'd pick up the CC/Neu or Medusa, but if those are still too much, the HW 2000kV 44mm should be a pretty good monster.

It probably is similar in performance to a KB45 L can, except with a 5mm shaft and 25mm hole spacing.

i would get a KB45 motor before i'd get the hobbywing motor. the 30mm bolt pattern is the only real downside. grinding the shaft down to 5mm is very easy with a dremel. i had a custom motor mount made for my savage to use KB motors. i only managed to get a 10 min test run on 3s with my 1400kv L sized KB motor until my esc died. the motor temped at 115F after going full throttle (which was about 15mph) for most of the run.

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

I actually like the HW motors. The end-bells are removeable and held in with screws that are more secure than the pressed-in end-bells of the Feigao/KD/KB motors. If you keep rpms below 40k, you should be fine.

Sorry new to this and not sure what the KB motors are ? [full name].
I am only going to be running 14.8v on it so it will only be doing 29 to 30,000rpm's. Its for a caster converted zx-1 nitro buggy with a 13/46 pinion and spure.

Hi, please avoid the KB motors. They are very inefficient. They heat up alot even with powerful fans. i run a KB45L 2300kv motor in my 4.7Kg truck geared to 35 - 40mph on 4S lipo and the motor will heat up to 60C within 5 min. Powerful but inefficient. And heat will demagnetise the motor rendering it useless. Go for better motors.

thats right, they get hot easyly. I think the quality is slightly better then the pink kd motors, as the rotor is balanced.
if you need such a big motor and you're on a budget, go for the feigao 580l. it measueres about 44x74 mm, has an 5mm axle. it's not a lehner, but at least better then a kb45. some people are quite happy with the kb45, I think that their quality really varies from average to very poor.

the feigao has some cooling-holes, just put a nylon mesh over it to keep the motor free from stones, dirt.

If you're running a buggy, pick up a CC/Neu motor or a Medusa 36-60-2000 or 36-70-2000.

Im running a converted caster zx1 buggy but i dont want it to go super fast i just want a good strong motor with plenty of tourqe and one i can get realy good run times out of without the motor getting hot.
My freind has a MMM 2200kv combo and in his ex1 caster and its too much for what i want but i have now got a MMM v3 esc but just need a new motor now so somthing around the 1700 to 2000kv range im thinking.

Get the MMM 2650 and run 3s or 4s and gear for 40mph. This will be plenty and MORE efficient than the Hobbywing stuff...

Wouldn't the 2650 make it even faster on 4s than the 2200. Im running a 13 tooth pinion and a 46 spure but do have an 11 tooth pinion also to gear it down to make it slower.

You have to play with the gearing.

I have 2 hw combos, 80a 36/74, in an e-revo, and a 80a 36/60 in an sc8ight. I run them both on 5s and have had no problems to speak of. I too have wanted to try the 44mm motor, but honestly what I have has been plenty for what I do with it. The motors are def better than the kd's, sad when they aren't even worth the $30. I had a mmm/2200 combo in the sc8ight, pulled to put it in an lst, yes the mmm combo had more power, but honestly not night and day difference I was expecting.
