Increasing runtime: - 02.05.2006, 06:42 PM

Whats the best way to increase the runtime of a brushless setup:
IE;
Would 20 cell gp 3700's be better than say 4000mah lipos???
Right now im running 16 cells and im just considering more runtime+powah!

Cheers.

unless wired parallel, more gp3700 won't give you more runtime. But you will get more power.

The li-po's give way better run time than nimh but you could get better li-po's than than that.

Geared down 20cells would give you slightly more runtime than 16cells. Personally I would reccomend saving up a getting a good set of lipo's (4000+mah)

Thing is though, with more Nimh cells, there's less load on each one, so runtime actually does go up. This would be the reason that guys running 18 GP2200's get about the same runtime as guys running 12 GP3300's.....up to 15 minutes or so.

EDIT: Maxxdude kinda said the same thing I was thinking........

Serum and I had a long discussion about this, and adding more cells can increase runtime if geared down - so that the truck goes the same speed on 20cells as it did on 16cells. But if the gearing is kept the same, runtime will decrease (but speed obviously speed will increase).

Swift, your best bet is with lipos (lighter, bigger capacity, no voltage sag under load)

In case anyone is wondering why the runtime will decrease if you add more cells and don't gear down, it is because the motor will pull more amps due to the increased voltage.

$600?? I wish I had that to spend on some lipos heh..

Well I think you should look into a few brands before you decide on one, tho those evo packs look pretty good from the specs.
