so I picked up a rc18b on the rctech donation thread(and a propulse roller for spare parts), and ben happened to get a mini T. we decided to build these seperatley with a contest this winter, with a limited budget to see who can build the better 18th scale.
that aside, Ive heard the rc18t and b have to deal with blown diffs, even with brushed setups
Can I shim them or something to keep this from happening? or is it time to stock up on spares?
also, what sounds like a good power combo? Im thinking the 1/10th sidewinder and a cm2054(5400kv) on 3s for now, but what do you all think?
stock uses 2 shims on the diff. i put a 3rd one and never broken a diff. i ran a 8000kv sidewinder combo on 2cells mostly but i have been running 3 cells for the past week or so with no problems.
good luck and have fun. its a sweet little car that can take a beating. and i mean a beating lol.

8000kv? on 3s? how hard have u been running it that the motor didnt go kaplooey?
I don't see why not! especially if you think you could fly/drive over to NJ. I've been thinking up rules and so this is what I've come up with so far.
We will have from the starting date until the closest 18th that is 2 months away(like Jan. 20th til march 18th)
$200 budget, excluding the rolling chassis and reciever. You start with your roller, and you must then buy your motor, esc, lipos, hopups, etc. and keep a reciept. anything that you have lying around the house you must find the ebay average selling price, and that will be the cost of your budget. Raw materials like kydex and aluminum do not count towards your budget, nor do screws. spraypaint does not cost your budget, but a new body does. and professional paint jobs do cost your budget
At the start of the contest, each contestant shall create their own thread, to document and show the people of RC-Monster what you are doing, but you cannot look at another contestant's thread. I urge people who are spectating to not post on one person's thread saying stuff like "oh this is totally going to beat so-and-so's motor and esc" and giving away the other contestants' secrets.
On the 18th, you must post pictures and a short video showing that your car is runnable, and the reciepts to prove your budget if you have not done so already. No further modifications can be made. After that, contestants can then look at and see what the others have up their sleeves. I'll then make an online poll that will be posted, so that the community can vote who's is the best in several categories. There will be some categories that are decided by the numbers, not voting, like top speed. Voting will continue for 1 week, and after that the votes are tallied. The winner is the one who won the most categories. so far these are the categories.
- top speed in the real world(radar)
- sleek/sexiness
- power
- handling
- rediculousness(ex. wheelies, standing backflips, etc.)
- its flying ability(off a ramp)
- durability (can be tested at the same time a its flying ability)
- A race at an r/c track (if everybody can get to the same location)
Since most people will be ordering at least a lipo from hobbycity, the contest will not start 'til wintertime, so that everybody can have money lined up to order as soon as it starts.
There is no real prize. I thought about mabye having the losers give up their 1:18th scales to the winner, but noone would want to do that after dropping $200 into it. The winner gets a lifetime of glory on the RC-Monster forums as being the sickest mini builder alive!
EDIT: spectators, if you want to place bets, do so off the forums. Idk if mike allows that sort of thing, and I wouldnt want this shut down because of it. which is why there is no monetary prize either.
Ok I'm in except for the travel to NJ part! I'll just have to post a crappy vid then..
So far I've got a Vendetta buggy in need of some TLC and a Medusa motor I got for $50. I already have a mamba max, and I plan to use that. I got it for $85, do I have to count that towards the total?

I'll post a thread when some progress is made.
Medusa and MM have to count, but can count as the average selling price on ebay, or the price you got it for If you can pull up a paypal reciept. and the contest isnt til the winter so dont post your secrets just yet!
Now are we going by a setup where you can run hard the whole charge, or a setup where you can do speedruns for a minute and you have to let it cool down for a minute?
