Ok guys, this is for you computer techs!

My dad has an older computer(A) running Windows 95. We recently got new computer(C) for my mom and so we are rotating my dad's old computer out with my mom's old computer(B). The problem is that he has a program on there(A) that he needs, along with all the entries made. I need to get it put on to my mom's old computer(B) running Windows XP. \

So I have a program on (A) that needs to go on (B)...

Now herein lies the problem. The CD burner isn't working. The USB ports dont support flash drives(jump drives, memory sticks), and it's not hooked up to the internet. How can I get that program without dismantling the computer so how?

I thought about a external hard drive but those plug in through USB or Firewire now...
Was going to burn the program but it wont burn...
Can't email it or internet transfer, no hook ups...

Any clues???

Can you get/make a crossover network cable and connect them both directly via the network card?

The next suggestion involves dismantling but; If that doesn't work, I would remove the Win95 drive from the old PC, and then attach it as a slave drive on the new one. Boot up and copy whatever you want via Explorer. But, the new PC may not even have IDE ports.

When I have issues like this I leave it to the professionals. I have a very qualified PC guy who does all of that kind of stuff for us. I just drop it off and explain what it is that I wish to have done, and he usually has it ready for me the next day.

It seems to me that the easiest thing to do is to remove the hard drive and transfer info with a drive to drive adapter since your USB ports and such do not work properly. It is pretty simple to do once you see it done. Removing the hard drive from the laptop is simple as well. They usually only have one or two screws that hold them into place. Moving data around from PC to PC is really not all that complicated. Once you get the two hard drives connected you can just copy and paste or drag and drop the files.

I was looking for a USB crossover cable...

Actually if a program is installed, you can't just copy the files that belong to it, unless it`s a pretty simple program.

If it's a free or shareware, i recommend installing it on the new computer. If it's not, then you probably have the original media. If you don't, call the company that made the software and ask for a media.

ethernet cable to ethernet cable, basically, make your own network.

Or, if you have a router, just connect it to the router, and setup up that network, then transfer it.

And what's wrong with the internet? If you can just upload it to rapidshare for like 10 minutes...

Or do the router trick, good luck!

Yeah, most of the time you'll need the registries as well, or something along the lines, what "program" is this?

There are file transfer systems you can buy which are essentially a USB cable that links the two pc's together. I have one somewhere - just not sure where. If I find it, I can mail it to ya - but they are fairly inexpensive.
I dont know if they can transfer a program or not - I highly doubt it unless yo still have the .exe and/or install files on the old pc. The program has you "back up" the files on your new pc.

You didnt state that your USB's didnt work at all, just not for flash drives, etc., correct?
