The latest in gov't mangling of our rights - 09.27.2009, 02:05 PM

http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/politics/...ing-Insurance/

I saw a ticker on fox news at work saturday, didn't catch the full thing, but got enough to google "fines for not buying health insurance". I can't imagine a free country doing this, so we must be going towards socialism in the U.S. I honestly don't see why the government needs to invade our privacy and make this threat to our rights. Obama has said there is no need to change insurance, if you have good coverage. This seems to contradict him hugely and badly for his credibility.

Shame on all democrats for thinking we will give up on our freedom of choice

I think shame on democrats may be a little much.

Just because people are democrats doesn't mean they want nationalized health insurance or at the very least they approve of exactly how it's being done.

Personally, I think there should be an option - choose your own health insurance, or pay extra taxes and be covered by the nationalized one.

The USPS competes with UPS and FedEx and that works fine. Why can't Blue Cross and Blue Shield compete with a Nationalized Healthcare System?

I'm sorry, I meant in the government positions. From what i have seen, not many real people are really behind this system the government is trying to impose upon us

Yeah Hillary was among the first (on record at least) to mention that kind of 'punitive' legislation, didn't seem to help her campaign much...

Guys need to understand this transcends the false left/ right dichotomy.

This is not a Dem/Rep issue, it is an issue of any opportunistic government.

Long as we fail to recognize the FALSE differences between the two parties, we are doomed to more of the same.

This is why REAL progress is never made, we keep this tug of war going, focusing on politics and never deviating very far from the prescribed 'course'.

My 3 cents.

+1 to BP-Revo, that would make the most sense and be a viable, workable solution to the problem of healthcare.

Sort of how it is in the goold old UK, only we all pay taxes to cover medical issues, only that the rich can opt to go private if they so wish at their own expense.

Personally, I just avoid getting into situations that might cause me harm, but theres no accounting for the actions of others..

Only been to hospital for 4 problems in my life- machete in my neck (shallow wound, it fell out of a tree my bro was climbing), broken finger playing basketball, and 2 seperate cases of ingrowing toenail; I can live with NHS care for issues like that...

I agree. The only reason i mentioned the dem's specific, is because i do not see any republican's at all on this. I hate how this will sound, but this president has stroke that no other pres. has ever had. and practically a blank check for it all.

well
Bush and Obama did their part to bankrupt America, I wonder if the independants will get more votes next election

Compared to Bush, Obama has spent very little money, and most of the money he has spent was because he HAD to. Based on the situation he sat down in, there are certain things he more or less has no choice in.

Personally, I'd like Bill back. But that's me.

I seem to recall a chart a while back that showed the level of poverty dropping consistantly under the Clinton administration; soon as Bush came along, it consistantly climbed back up...

For all his faults (that munter he jizzed in/on), Clinton was very likeable.

I can't help but think that this "penalty" was driven by the insurance constituents. They see their bottom line falling, and the only way they can help pad it is to make sure everyone buys coverage.

I understand the "explained" reason behind the penalty - uninsured's cost to us at the ER's, which I'm sure is a huge amount. However, there has to be a better way. I also cant see how they will enforce it.

I still say that they need to work on capping the cost of medical care instead of finding different ways to pay for it. They also need to ban lawsuits against providers, which I think is one of the major contributors to the cost of med care. I saw a report on the news the other night where they estimate that 30 -50% of tests they run are CYA (cover your ass) tests.

Arent alot of the lawsuits brought because the companies refuse to pay out though, claiming that the customer who has often paid for years & $$$$ over that period isnt covered for some specific diseases, but they arent told this (fine print) until they try to make a claim (alot like travel insurance and private health care in the UK- certain rare illnesses and conditions arent covered, rather conveniently saving the insurance firm alot of money since they dont have to pay out)?

Seems to be a common theme covered in alot movies over the past few years...

Ill keep this simple 3rd grader, because thats what I am... 1st Nancy Pelosi is killing us. If we dont riot we will die (so to speak).. I don't understand why people say "I was denied a surgery" ..I don't have health insurance and got my gall bladder out. Cost $65,000 I dont have $200 right now but they did it. They werent going to let me die. You just have to go to the hospital and they fix you, ask for money later. I lived in England, that medicine system was nice, you need glasses, free, free eye exam, free glasses free shots from doctors etc..like Neil said, you want your own physician in a top roof apartment, you pay. I Just don't get where people say they are denied medical help here in America. I never have been and I have no insurance and im not on medicaid or medicare or anything, straight up insuranceless.

Well, on one hand you are correct. People do end up having to take thier insurance companies to court to get payment on their bills at times. Yes, there have been many movies and books on this.
But what I was referring to was malpractice lawsuits. From what I've been able to tell, malpractice insurance has gotten so costly, that its one of the main drivers on the cost you and I see when going to the Dr.

I dont believe anyone is saying they are denied medical help - they are denied insurance coverage for a lot of medical help. Also, you cant just go to any hospital to get that kind of care you are referring to - you need one that is county or state funded, otherwise they will get you stable and send you to the one that takes "freeloaders" (so to speak). So who's going to pay the cost of fixin' you if you have to have some sort of major surgery 'cause a lipo blew up while you were holding it in your teeth?

The problem with that is a thing called a tiered health care system. It won`t stop the insurance companies & others from price gauging people. If the U.S. government let that happen they won`t be able to ensure the quality of health care to people.

The joint I goto "Northwest Community Hospital" (NW Illinois) is probably a state type hospital. Its the nicest hospital ive been in. Trust me ive been in alot of them. I imagine a private hospital like "little company of mary" in Torrance California wouldnt help me. NW Community fixed me up many times and then sent me a bill. I did negotiate it to about $26,000 out of the $65,000 they wanted and I paid it cash, so maybe they check your credit before you go in there ? All I know is I will be back there soon knowing myself and If my luzury of getting patched up and paying later is ruined ill be really pissed

Ill add on edit: It pretty much worked out to be the same money, when I had heatlth insurance last in the mid 1990s, if I still worked there and paid for it in 2009 it would have been almost $25,000 so its pretty much a wash. Glad im getting married next month and will then get Walgreens heath ins. lol Thats when I will pull out my quad and longboard again

I think shame on the constitution for not abolishing the Democrats way back when... Damn free masons not thinking it through... They are ALL spinning in their graves right now, that is for sure.

And nationalized health care is all finer and dandy, till you realize that the gov't and their 76 average iq will be running it. At least (insert large smart privately owned corporation name here) will get stinking rich from it and we can all pay up a bit more to allow for that. YAY!

Time to give (read sell) all of my stuff to a minority church and start drawing unemloyment and welfare.

That way I will not have to pay 17% VAT and tv, road, poop taxes (etc.) like the Brits I left behind...

I guess the USA was fun while it lasted, HILE OBAMA!!!
