Bearing quality for our motors - 09.28.2009, 11:53 PM

Many of us are running Neu, Tekno Neu, CC Neu, and/or Tekin motors. I want to stock a few few replacement bearings on hand so I can replace the worn out ones when needed. I've been trying to figure out which bearings and quality to buy on Boca's web site. My Tekin uses a 5x16x5 and a 5x11x5 bearing. The majority of the bearings are ABEC#1, but I read somewhere Neu puts ABEC#3 bearings in their motors? Would a ABEC#5 last any longer than the ABEC#3 given the enviroment it's going to be used in? Is the cost of a ceramic hybrid bearing worth the extra cost?

Anyone replace their own bearings have any answers they could share?

Longevity depends mostly on the materials used. Higher ABEC rating means tighter tolerances; resulting in less play in all directions and a smoother feel.

Longevity depends on care of the bearings. I have yet to see a Sealed bearing in the RC industry, they are sheilded. The reason would be because a real sealed bearing has contact with the inner race which causes a great amount of friction. The higher the ABEC number the tighter the tolerences are(usually for the better). The higher the ABEC number the closer tolerences have to be between the front and real bearing housing. As far as getting Ceramic or Hybrid to me it's not worth the extra money unless you are going for a land speed record.

i put the factory castle ones back in mine so im no help (i buy them by the tube from Nue), i have been cleaing mine different lately and gotten alot longer life out of them, im gonna see how how these go before i post that info but its looking pretty good.

but honestly i couldnt bring myself to buy the $12-$15 a piece bearings to run at wolfpack william.... its so sandy id rather replace a few cheap bearings than to lock up some ceramics..... which are not good at all for running any where with really fine dirt.
