BL Savy ???'s - 02.21.2006, 02:44 PM

I have a savy 4.6 and a savy truckzilla on the way. Which one should I convert? I'll be running a 9918/9L or 9xl on 12 to 18 cells. I have tires ranging from maxx to lst that I'll be using. Both trucks are 3 spds.
Where should I start with my gearing? I liked seeing the batts in between the tvp's so I would then need to use the truckzilla correct. I'll prob be sticking with the savy tranny for now and the stock brake setup. I already have batt trays and such. I actually have everything to build it up but was unsure if my bl will do it.

Thanks for all the info and this great site! Shaun

Hi Shaun!

listen, it won't be possible to get the batteries inside the tvp's when you use the stock transmission, even with the truckzilla tvp's there is not enough room for 18 cells.

I would use the trays you have and put them outside the TVP's.

You have got a motorplate?

with the 9918, you are able to use 20 cells, (the 9918 is relabeled to 9920, without ANY technical changes) and that 9XL can take the 20 cells as well.

trust me, it will be a blast! what drivetrain hopups did you use? i suggest taking the FLM bulkless or GPM diffhousings. a set of the HB8019 diffcups (hotbodies) won't hurt either. with the power of that setup, it's likely you will snap a dogbone (if these are the stockers)

I've got the hd duty dogbones and diff cups already. I was hoping the 9L would work good so I wouldn't have to do the upgrades right away. Do you know of anyone running the 9L and how it worked for them. I'll try a search also.

Thanks, Shaun

12 cells is not incredible fast.

i would use the 9XL, ever since the savage is a heavy truck.

The 9xl will work not as hard so less heat for the heavy truck.

Peace!

So I should put the 9l back in my maxx and use the 9xl in my savy? I think I'm gonna start the conversion tonite when the kids go to bed and keep the truckzilla as my nitro savy.
So using the stock spurs where should I start with my gearing? I think I have the 49 and 52t spurs on hand. I have 12,14,and 16t pinions right now also.
I appreciate the help guys.

Shaun

I run a 9L in my Savage, I want a bit more power. I've had to gear it down to 52/16 I think, and it just seems to kinda have flat top end compared to other bl's I run, even on 14 cells I think it's only doing 40 at most. I'm hoping to get a 9xl $omeday though.....

Dabid are you running the 2 or 3 speed tranny?

I need to get some mod 1 pinions. I have 32p but it seems that the mod 1 is what I need for my nitro conversions. I've been just changing the spurs to 32p. Anyone have 1 or 2 extras they could let go for cheap or maybe trade for something?

Shaun
