Land Line Cordless Phone Suggestions ?

I have a ancient rotary corded phone in my house and my Fiance' hates it with passion LOL.
I haven't bought a land line phone since I can remember and owning a celly for close to 15 years I'm a little out of the loop. I got to looking around and see a lot of unfamiliar name brands and see there availble in 2.4 & 6.0. I want to spend maybe a $100.00 or better yet, less.
Anybody had good luck with any particular brands or bands, any features or brands I should definitely steer clear of ?

Totally open for suggestions ?

What kind of range do the 2.4's have ?

In all my cordless phones, the batteries suck. Make sure to find some good battery life.

Thats a start, will the more I spend on a phone determin the qaulity and life of the battery included ?

Look at the Panasonic KX-TG1032 - base station and 2 additional handsets. Can get upo to 5 handsets if you want/need that many. Comes with AAA rechargeables and once charged, I've never seen any of ours show any battery drainage on the handset guage. And believe me, my wife gives them a workout!

Got ours in June, will do just about everything and really like the builtin directory you can set up.

I have a panasonic dect 6.0 system and like it a lot. Battery life and range are great and it's one of the only ones I could find without a built in answering system. I do not understand why so many phones still have answering systems when so many people use the services provided free with their phone service.

+3 on Panasonic I had real good luck with their phones. I had one for almost 5 years and instead of buying new batteries I ended up buying new phones, and have been through a set every year for the past 4 years. Just make sure you keep a corded phone for hurricane season..... or you will have to use your RC batteries to power the base.

Range: The Panasonic I had I was able to walk across the street to my work, across 4 lanes of traffic and a median, and about 75' to the door with no problems so I was at least 500' away from the base.

rotary phone huh? When my parents moved into their farm in '85 the house was still on a party line with two other houses. You never knew when you picked up whether some other house was using the line. As a kid it was fun to pick up the phone and listen to their conversations, and a couple of times my sister or I inadvertantly left the phone off the hook and the neighbors drove over to yell at us! Good times......

Don't get 2.4ghz, may interfere with your specktrum radio

Not really, but I had a 2.4ghz that caused problems with wireless router, of course they only sat about 5 feet apart. I have 5.8ghz set up with 3 handsets now, I often take it to the neighbors house (about 200 feet) with no worries.

I also have the panasonic dect unit. I like it a lot. I have 5 handsets for it, phone is very clear even when on speaker phone.

Stay away from Bell South and GE, POS back when I worked at Wal-Mart 10 years ago and nothing's changed. Vtech, Uniden, Panasonic are better quality brands.

We have a Uniden set that we bought at Costco.

The base came with a corded phone attached to it. Kind of pointless, since it wont work if there is no power to the base. Occasionally I end up using it though, since my parents [Mom] somehow manage to displace the downstairs handsets...

It also came with 5 cordless handsets - 2 black, 1 white, 1 blue, 1 red. Color coding helps keep track of the phones for us.

I'm pretty sure it's a 5.8ghz setup (says "Direct 6.0" on the phones).

However, all that crap above (for me) is worthless.

What matters is the batteries!!!

We've had a ton of different cordless phones in the past and they were ok but after a year they all had TERRIBLE battery life. The common theme was that they had NiCD (one had NiMH).

The ones we have now are Li-Ion, and have been going strong for at least a couple years now.

So you can do whatever you want regarding brand and operating frequency, but it's important to look at the batteries.

You have to bear in mind that only in the past few years Lithion Ion has been cost effective to be used in anything besides cellphones and it takes on a major price increase on the product. Till then, NiCad's and NimH were primarely used and you were lucky to get one year of good use out of them most of the time

I made my 1st cell phone nimh battery last over 2 yrs. The people at the cell phone hut could not belive it, they gave me the replacement phone for free. I did condition the battery weekly, and that gave it the life.

Lipo/li-ion is much better. I have the 2 line 5.8 ghz panasonic at work. I had an older model for about 3 yrs, and finially got rid of it. Bought this newer model and I am not really impressed. 1 handset has already lost its "ring" and the range is poor (keep in mind I am in a metal building). I plan to get something in a different brand soon, but I need 2 line, and an answering machine too. I like the features and control of the panasonic though...
