Figured you guys may be able to help me........ - 03.15.2010, 03:17 PM

I posted this in another forum I frequent, and I thought you guys maybe able help me. If your wondering what on earth I'm talking about it a electronic tachometer meant for one - 8 banger engines. I'm going to attach it to my custom modified/made(by me) Kart engine.......in my custom made 3 wheeler

Quote: Need some TinyTach wire help
I just received my tiny tach from Mark G and I need some help fixing it......

The tach it self seems to be in fine mechanical condition, and so is the coaxial cable..except the minor detail that the red and white wires at the end are missing.

Since this is my first tiny tack, I need some help identifying the wires so I can repair it.

From this picture>> It looks like the center wire of coaxial cable is the red sensor wire and outer wrapping wire is the white ground. Is this correct?

Are the red and white wires solid core or multi strand? and are they soldered on or just twisted together?

Thanks in advance

You are correct about the wire assignment. They are probably stranded wire, and should be soldered to the coax cable. I'd use two layers of heatshrink tubing; one over just the red wire joint, and another piece over the whole area like in the picture. There would be less stress on the white wire's joint if it exited on the same side as the red wire.
