Getting Back into Brushless, heres what I'm startin with

Well after being out of brushless for about 3 years I'm making a return. Decided to go the 8th scale buggy route this time rather than spending crap loads of $ upgrading an emaxx. I just won this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...4161%26fvi%3D1 this afternoon which should prove to be a good starting point I think. Not sure what I'm going to run motor/controller wise, I like how setups have fallen in price so much. My last setup motor and controller cost close to $500 (hacker b50 9L, schulze 18.97).

Yeah I know, I've been away from brushless for a while, not new to it in any sense though. On top of my old hacker setup I've owned the Novak system (the 1st one released) which I ran in a 10th buggy and 10th drift car, and an Aveox 1409/1.5 with the L160 controller in a light weight max.
As for setups I'm currently looking at the quark controller and probably run 8 cells, or if I get enough work in the next month or so a lipo setup but I'll make that final decision upon inspection of the car and weight distribution.

Also you say Leroy sold his buggy, does that mean the former owner is posts here, if so I'd love to know what he's had success with in the past with this buggy.

Yes, Leroy AKA Coolhandcountry is indeed a member here. One of the most regulars, actually.

Most guys run converted 8th scale buggies on 10-16 cells, or 4S up to even 6S Lipo. I run my MBX5 on 14 cells, and will try it on 5S when it gets warmer here.

No I'm starting fresh, actually I have my old schulze 18.97 that is fried they said if I send that in they would give me a 25% discount on any other esc if I buy direct from them. However at the time that was still over $270 and I didn't have the money.

welcome good to see you here firestar im also boss 302 on maxxtraxx like i said on maxxtraxx dafni is definately the guy to talk to he has a really sweet buggy. also what kind of speed are you looking for.

This buggy would be raced mainly on an indoor offroad track Bumps N Jumps if any of you are from the NJ/PA/DE/NY/MD area may have heard of it. Not many long straights lots of technical stuff lots of on/off throttle not many straights so real high current draws and hard on esc for up to 30min A mains. Its a super slick clay track where everyone runs rubber slicks all around tons of traction and about a 50' long straight max. But I would also like this buggy for bashing so something alittle flexible might be nice with alittle more speed than needed for that track.

What kind of speeds are you looking for? I would suggest lipo for the light weight and faster acceleration with longer run time.

A burned schulze? that's something new... can you get some pictures of the fried thing? I'd love to add them to my collection.

On a tight/technical indoor track you will love lipo's. being lightweight, the buggy is unbelievable nimble. I played with Daniels buggy (heavy 14 cells) and i really loved its handling. A guy who normally races nitro buggies said it was a league on it's own, it drives like the most perfect setup nitro buggy, but with a much smoother power band. On 5S you will love it on a tight track, it is very nimble.

Seurm, the controller is at my parents house (where I lived at the time it blew) I'll get a pic next time I visit them, but its completely burned, it even burned a small hole in my plastic emaxx tranny case.
