Tekin 2250 Q's - 05.06.2010, 07:29 PM

Hey guys,

I just received a used Tekin 2250 combo, but I got a couple of questions.

#1. Compared to the Castle 2200 motor, the Tekin motor turns like butter, it's so smooth. The Castle motor is MUCH harder to turn by hand, indicating that the CC motor has stronger magnets. Is this correct?

#2. The Tekin comes standard with 12awg wire, the MMM combo comes with 10awg. Does that mean the MMM combo can handle more current?

#3. Why is the Tekin system so much more expensive?

Thanks for any help given

it cost more because its sensored

the big difference between castle and tekin are really only noticeable on startup and at the race track

as for current yes the mmm is alittle better, but it all comes down to preference, me personally i own both.

if you bought the tekin because you though it was more powerful because it cost more then you should have done some homework

I just bash so won't be using the sensored feature.

Am I correct in thinking the Neu/Castle motor is more powerful than the Tekin, bar the extra 50kv that the Tekin motor has?

Incorrect.
A motor hasn't power ==> A motor can handle a given power.
And the Castle can handle more power than the tekin, that's mean geared for the same performance in the same chassis, the castle will run cooler and longer than the tekin, consequently you can gear the castle up and have better performance than the tekin with same runtime and same motor temp.
the castle is heavier, that's why it can handle more current or power : the wires inside are bigger than tekin wires for example...
Why didn't you buy a CC 2200kV combo ? Next time ask some people the best choice for your application...

Inferno VE MMv3 NEU-CC 1515/1Y 4S "Flying machine"

MBX5T Prospec MMv3 NEU-CC 1520/1Y 6S "Overkill Flying machine" ;)

Brushless, what else ?

I wonder how so many people love the Tekin over the CC setup, Not just crawlers... its weird.

Is the motor of the Tekin system less powerful than the CC? Are they weaker magnets?

I've been following this thread, wanting to know the answers to these questions myself.

I just purchased a Tekin 4038 2000kv version. I am VERY pleased with it. It can flip the E Revo backwards effortlessly, runs great, and will go into "crawler" mode with ZERO cogging.

Here's my attempt at answering your questions. My answers are incomplete, so I'm still collecting information.

#1. Compared to the Castle 2200 motor, the Tekin motor turns like butter, it's so smooth. The Castle motor is MUCH harder to turn by hand, indicating that the CC motor has stronger magnets. Is this correct?

This isn't a 100% sure indication of stronger magnets. Castle chose the 45SH strength, which is right up there toward the top of the scale. I've seen nothing to indicate what strength magnets Tekin chose to put into their motors. I do know they are pretty strong. I removed the rotor from my motor to have a look at that very thing.
Stator construction can and will alter the notchy feeling that you get when you turn the rotor.

#2. The Tekin comes standard with 12awg wire, the MMM combo comes with 10awg. Does that mean the MMM combo can handle more current?

No, it doesn't. Overall efficiency and the ability to shed heat is what determines a motor's power handling ability. Sizing, of course, plays a large role also.
The 10awg wire on the Castle Motor means it is likely to receive slighty more voltage since there will be less voltage drop before it reaches the motor.
The Castle Motor is well designed, but you can install any size leads on the Tekin, that you want. I put 10awg leads on my Tekin.

#3. Why is the Tekin system so much more expensive?

The addition of sensors means more parts. More parts equal more costs.

Castle is also VERY competitive when it comes to the market.

To answer these questions accurately, there needs to be a side by side comparison. Disassembled AND in performance that measures currents when being used on the same setups. Perhaps that would give us more accurate answers.

Nice thread and some very good questions. Thanks for posting.

I'm thinking the previous owner may have run the motor too hot, hence demagnatizing the neodimium magnets in the motor
