Having issues programming a MGM 120-32 3S - 08.19.2010, 02:09 PM

Hi RCM Members,

I'm trying to program my MGM ESC but somehow it doesn't do what it should do. First I tried to run the ESC without any programming: I turned the ESC on and gave some throttle, then it starts to beep, blink red and the motor starts to move (this movement looks like cogging, but isn't actually cogging lol).

So then I wanted to program the ESC, but I'm having some problems...
A quote from the manual:
Quote:
1) Turn the transmitter on with throttle stick in max. throttle forwards position !
2) Turn on the controller. After 10seconds the controller will beep 3 x and LED will blink and stay turned on. Now you have 3 seconds to move the throttle to max throttle
backwards position (full brake). If in this time limit you do not put the throttle in min position the programming process will end and the controller will be turned off. Its
next operation is possible after switching off and then turning on by switch (disconnecting and connecting of batteries)
. If you put the throttle to full brake in
this time limit, the motor will beep 1× and the LED will be blink 1×. Move throttle to neutral position, motor will beep 2× and the LED will be blink 2×. Now you are in the
programming mode and may start to program parameters according to the procedure described above.

I managed to get it done till "It's next operation blablabla", then I can't get it in the programming mode. I hold the throttle in brake for more than a minute and I still didn't get a beep or blink.

Could anyone help me? Or anyone who had the same issue?

This is why with my MGM I used the USB interface. Banging my head against the wall doing through the TX was getting me nowhere.

It takes quite a long time to get to the programming mode, longer than the 10 secs. that the manual says, IIRC. Make sure your endpoint/brake is at 100 or 125 percent. Will it calibrate to the radio? I think you will need to do this before you can get into programming mode.

I'm not sure if it's calibrated to the TX, is there any way of seeing this? I just did what the manual said:
Quote:
If
transmitter or receiver is changed for a different one, it is recommended to do the programming again – it is enough to start the programming mode so that new
parameters of control signal are saved (switch on with full throttle forward, wait 3 beeps, move to full throttle backward, 1 beep, move to neutral, 2 beeps, controller
switch off
).
I will set the endpoints at 125% and try it again. Thank you for your help!

@Texas: those USB thingy's are pricey imo, I'll try to program it through the TX.

If you get the beeps according to the manual (3, then 1, then 2) it should be set to the radio. I would not count on the times as they say in the manual, just wait for the beeps. I have a couple MGM controllers, and have had quirky things happen with transmitter programming. If all else fails, reset to default (factory) settings and start over... got me working correctly on a couple occasions.
