Turnigy 150A ESC + Motor - Better than Mamba? - 08.23.2010, 09:46 PM

According to several comments on this, it performs better than Mamba on 4s. I have a hard time believing this. What's your take on it?

Its cheaper for sure. Are you comparing it to a mamba max? or Monster? I have read a bunch about that controller. I know the startup is rougher than the mamba or monster. You cant program with a computer. At one point I read a firmware upgrade was bricking them. You cant return them to the factory if you get a defective one because the shipping is more than the item. Castle is constantly upgrading their firmware with newer cooler features. The motor in that combo will not be very efficient, but it will probably work.
The thing about these controllers is that I dont think anyone has perfected them yet and gotton to the point where they are as reliable as the older brushed controllers. With Castle if it breaks in the first year you send it back and they fix or you get a new one. With this one you chuck it in the trash. You probably want to read the reviews. Out of the ones that left good feedback I would wonder how many are still running, but there are a lot of negative ones right off the bat.

But yeah you cant beat the price and I'm sure it will be pretty powerful. Maybe some of the guys here have had better luck with it?

I say, just get an MMM combo. You pay a little extra but I think its worth it.

I wouldn't run it in any of my favorite rigs, they have Mamba Monster setups. I was just curious what people thought about this setup, but apparently it's an older version of Ezrun/Xerun?

I don't get all these combos. eZrun and Xerun sounds the same, looks similar, etc. Now it turns out Turnigy was the first version, which is a different brand alltogether I thought? :S

well, better how? The extra 150kv equates to roughly 2250 extra rpm. so in identical setups it should be faster, but it is definitely less efficient and less reliable.

Pretty much all of the asian esc's are knockoffs/relabeled versions of the same esc. More names on the same product means more sales. They work well for some.

In my oppinion, if you can afford to gamble on it, get it, but if it fails you have no recourse.

If you want to be able to repair/warranty it if it fails go castle.

I remember reading somewhere about esc's. The 150A rating is at a given temperature (usually room temp- 20 or 25C ?). When it warms up to operating temp (40-60C) the rating decreases and decreases a lot when poor quality components are used.

I've had one of these esc's and they aren't that bad but because of Castles awesome backup I won't get another one. Even if I stuff a castle esc out of warranty, I'm not out of pocket for full price just the repair price.
