Need a refresher on basic NiMH usage and care - 10.06.2010, 12:35 AM

I managed to snag a 7 cell 4200mah Trinity reference nimh hump pack for cheap online for my friends Stampede. He's been running locally purchased 6 cell nimh packs but I don't think he's been taking proper care of them as they don't last as long as they used and don't have same power output as before. I want to prevent him from ruining this nice nimh I got him.

Could someone lend me some links that I could print out basic nimh usage and care for him to follow? He's using a Dynamite Prophet plus charger.

this is a great read for general charging and discharging rules, as well as testing battery capacity (condition)

Of course some of it is specific for the mrc 977 charger, but it lists some very good rules of thumb

The only thing I would add for battery care is to never leave them drained, always recharge after use. Leaving them dead is a quick way to ruin them.

Well isnt this a nice coincidence.

I dug out my 977 SuperBrain yesterday evening and have been trying to bring some of my better NiMh 7-cell back to life. Round 2 is happening right now. I'm discharging a couple of them as we speak. However I have been unable to get them to warm up very well for me just yet.

Better yet just throw them in the trash and get some new LiPos. Sorry I just could not resist.

Actually we have about a dozen Nmh packs here at the Hill House, and they have been sitting in the drawer for about 8 months without being used, so I will more than likely have to go through the same cycling issues trying to get them back up to par when we want to use them again. Although from what I have read once you let them go to this point you will never get them back up to 100% no matter how hard you try. Good luck with that.

Is this payment for his friendship?
