Need some advice from my RCM friends again -
12.21.2010, 03:04 AM
You guys gave me some good advice last time I had an issue with an RC classifieds buy/sell/trade deal, and now I could use some again.
Here's the deal: set up a trade with a guy on RC Tech, my MMP 1-cell and BEC for his MMM. He only has 2 feedback and I have almost 40 (100% positive, mostly selling). I told him I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, and as soon as he sent me a delivery confirmation I would send my item the same day. Everything was supposed to go out today.
Well I didn't hear anything all day, so I contacted him. He said he had someone (wife, girlfriend, mom, not sure?) send it out for him, but they forgot to get delivery confirmation. I told him that is OK, but because of that I'm not going to send my item until I receive the MMM. At first he said OK, but now he contacted me again and is pushing for me to send the MMP right away.
I feel it is perfectly reasonable for me to wait now, since he didn't follow the terms of the agreement. What do you guys think?

I think its perfectly fine for him to wait. Its not your fault that he didnt follow directions. Dont let him bully you into sending it off untill you get it. I bet dollars to donuts that he didnt ship anything off, only time will tell i guess

I agree with Josh on this one. Obviously he let a girl do a mans job. Thats what happens. Do not ship anything to him until you receive the item and have a chance to check it out. Make sure you are not getting burned before you head off to the post office. You already gave him the benefit of the doubt, and he screwed it up. That is if he is even telling you the truth. If he complains just tell him that is what he gets for delegating his responsibilities. Your deal was not with his grilfriend, it was with him.

I agree, wait for your item to come in the mail before you send yours out. Otherwise the whole thing could be a scam. I used to be trusting over the internet but after being scammed out of quite a bit of money earlier this year I suggest you to be as safe as you can.

Wait or get a tracking number by creating the shipment online but don't put it in the post.

I would simply explain to him that you had both agreed to these terms, he did not follow them. So to avoid a possible scam tell him he is going to have to wait. You two are talking on the phone so it sounds that both parties are legitimate, we know your side is at least. If it never shows you will be thankful you did not send yours. If his shows than follow through on your end. As P.O.'d as he wants to get he didn't follow the agreement. His fault not yours.

I would say wait as well. Sounds fishy and I would err on the side of caution given the circumstances. Like was said, he agreed to a deal but didn't fulfill his side fully, so now he suffers the penalty of waiting. If he complains, tell him you'll gladly ship it back unopened when (or if) it arrives, providing he pays for the return shipping of course.
And even if you DO get the item, I would hook it up to make sure it works before you send your working unit to him. If it doesn't you can ship it back to him; you'd be out the shipping cost, but not the cost of a full MMM...

No need for me to reiterate on what you need to do.
But I simply hate trades, I have done 2 high dollar trades in the past. And in both cases, due to perfect feedback. Both guys were willing to ship first. Thats is the ONLY way a deal would have been done and everything went smooth. I let them know that if I had any problem w/ what they shipped I would return it on my dime.
And that ship at same time thing is a load of crap.
Either way, with your better feedback and now that he kinda "dropped the ball" you most certainly can let it play out with no need to feel guilty about him having to wait a couple of extra days.
Has the story changed at all now?

I have done alot of trades and have been lucky so far. But the deal was that he had to send you tracking info and he did not. So just wait till it shows up and test it out. Make sure you put tracking on your package... Just in case.
I have done the ship at the same time and never had an issue. Usually on this forum, and with people here that I am familiar with.

We exchanged a few more messages and he accepted that I am going to wait. It turns out he is a kid, 16 years old. He said his mother sent it out and didn't get tracking.
At first he started in on me about "I'm just a kid, and I worked very hard to earn that MMM. I just sent it halfway across the country to some stranger, and how do I know you will send me anything?"
I reminded him I have 37 positive feedback and he has 2, and really it shouldn't be MY integrity being called into question, especially since he was the one who didn't follow the agreement. I also told him if he is 16 and doesn't feel like he can handle the responsibility and risk he shouldn't be making trade deals online.

hell, at 16 I had all ready maxed out the 5k limit on a PP account...
I have done 100s of online trades/purchases, I have only been scamed twice, both of which I went against my better jugment and bought/traded with someone with low/no feedback...

Yeah, there are a handful of "online" guys here and a few of my "online" crawler buddies at RCC that I'd trade with, ship early, wait for payment, etc.
It's nice that there is a good group of guys that you can really trust.
Funny story: I had a guy buy from me on ebay a good while back. We had some e-communications back and forth, etc. I guess this guy was so excited he won & stoked to be getting my goodies that he immediatly left me positive feedback and I was still looking at the item sitting on my desk.

Yeah, I would feel fine trading with most of you guys here at RCM. It's one of the few forums on the net that is pretty much free from trolls and jerks. But RC Tech sure has plenty...

Ah, funny you would say that.
As I'm waiting on my MMM/2200kv combo from a guy on RCTech.
Site's like Tech and Universe make me nervous. Ive been on RCT for maybe 3 years and have 20 posts. 5 of which were in the last day or two. Ive got a trader rating of 2. One of which was for about 50 AA lithium batteries.
