Need to wallow in my pity.

Well this has been a crappy weekend altogether.

Started with racing this Saturday, car ran fine all three qualifiers but four minutes in to the A1 main I lost signal to my buggy. Turns out the internal BEC in the xcelorin esc has failed. There was a single blue LED lit on the ESC but no life in the rx. Once power had been disconected it would work again, for about 30 seconds. Now it just sits there, LED's responding to throttle/brake input but no motor movement.

This will be sent to Losi for warranty repair.

And now after putting my Mamba Monster in the buggy, I find that it has issues as well. It will cog badly and will reset once in a while. Like the power has been turned off and the on again very quickly. While trying to figure out the cogging the yellow LED started blinking very fast and it will not respond to throttle input.


So that's my weekend, how has yours been?

Um, did you try it with the servo's disconnected?

The Mamba seems better after reverting back to the 1.28 software. I remembered it not cogging before upgrading to v1.30.

Saturday racing was cancelled because track owner was sick... just as well, I was sick all weekend too!

The older firmware for the Mamba Monster is much better than the newer firmware IMO. I updated mine and I had the same problem with cogging. So I want back to 1.22 (I think) and it is much smoother. If I were you I would just ditch the Losi ecs once you get it back from repair. The owner of my LHS had nothing but problems with his (until he replaced it with a MMM) and most other people that have them also give them a thumbs down. Stick with the MMM its a much better and more reliable esc that will never let you down.

Ya know it could have been much worse. At least it did not let out the magic smoke or go up in flames. Sure it was disapointing, but nothing to get all suicidle over. Do your homework, get your setup working better and go race some more. Good luck with that.

The MMM lives again, downgrading to v1.21 did the trick.

The Xcelorin, well I'm considering the 150A Turnigy trackstar to replace it. Anybody got any feedback on that one.

There is a thread about it somewhere around here. I think the internals are a clone of the MMM, possibly having lower quality FETs and BEC.

I would look at the Mamba Max Pro, even though it's technically a 1/10 ESC it makes for an awesome 1/8 buggy ESC and the price is definitely right.

+1 on the MMP, its one cool esc. I use it in all my 1/8 buggy's

MMM's and MMP's can be had for the same price. Unless one is going to use a sensored motor it makes much more sense to buy an MMM. It is a more robust and therefore more forgiving controller.

I'm thinking about a RX8 now, it's a little tight under the body with a MMM. It fits, barely. I mean I have to get the wires in just right, or the body wont go on.
