Extended wheelbase GTP2 - 01.12.2013, 07:52 PM

After being a little disappointed in the over all look of my OFNA GTP2 for a length to with perspective, I decided to take the scale out to a 1/7th scale wheel base. Basing my measurements on the Traxxas X0-1, I fabbed up a carbon fiber extension plate to move the rear section of the car back nearly 3 inches. The wheelbase is now exactly 15.9 inches from center front to center rear and the perfect length to fit the X0-1 body. Just as with the rest of the chassis, the extension plate and the top plate is 4.4mm carbon fiber.

After getting it all back together the fit and finish could not be better. After a few tweaks to the GTP mounting posts, the body went on without a hitch and the road test was a success. The first of two projects down, one to go.

Flo, Thanks. it was a one off project. I love carbon fiber so all my models, if I can see it in CF, it gets cut. My next two projects will be an Inferno GT2 and my Mayhem ST.

Id love to turn my gtp into a 360mm wheelbase so I could fit the new audi R8 body onto it . I was looking around for cf chassis and seen a couple places sell them but they dont have to top center plates as you made .
I just seen your build on RCU and was like man how could I contact the guy since you havnt logged on in yrs and just noticed you have same name here . I envy your guys creativity to come up with these projects .
Well if you ever change your mind and feel like doing another one , Id really appreciate and pay you for your time and materials and of course shipping .. if not oh well no love lost lol. Cant wait to see your other projects

Any 1/8th Truggy Chassis and driveline/brace components using its 1/8th scale Buggy A-arms and associated parts.

You could take a Losi 8ight-T and use the Buggy A-arms, CVDs and you could drop any of the Kyosho GT2 bodies on it. Could call it the Losi 8iGT.

Pretty much works for any Truggy that has a Buggy sibling.

Sorry to big house for the Tangent here.

So I'll make this the last I segway in this thread.

But the reason you can do that with the Truggy/Buggy hybrid is because Kyosho who pretty much pushed the Rally Game classes as we know them first converted a 1/8th scale buggy to "on-road". Then later when they wanted a more realistic wheelbase they decided to swap the Buggy Chassis out for their Truggy chassis. This extended the wheelbase from 330mm to 360mm.

Truggies are all very close to 360mm wheelbases. Some 358, some 362...etc. So Kyosho raided their existing parts bin to keep costs down rather than designing a chassis from scratch. This is also why most of the GT class cars have a 15* kick-up on the front of the chassis which is undesirable in an on-road car from a suspension geometry standoint.

There are only a few production cars left using one-off on-road chassis. Traxxas XO-1 doens't count cause its a full one-off setup, its wheelbase is 406mm though.
The 1/7th scale on-roads are:

    • Jammin X1 CRT Pro, MMM/1717, 6S
    • Hyper One Seven 1/7th scale GT car, MMM/1717, 6S
    • Hyper 10TT, MMP/1410, 3S
    • TL Mini 8ight, stock, 2S

man now it all seems clearer now !!! so is there a truggy version of the ofna gtp/lx2 that I could probably swap over my parts to the chassis and just add a longer dogbone .
thanks alot and sorry BigHouse didnt mean to jack the thread or really go off topic

No problem with thread hack...it its all on same topic. The newer GTP is longer than the oval racer, it has a length near the inferno.

I'm thinking about doing a truggy length chassis for my Jammin X2 GT when the one I have now is worn out. The current buggy length CF chassis is molded and has front kickup (ordered it before I decided to do the GT conversion) which I'd like to get rid of.

Nice job on the extension.

I am lengthening my Mayhem also. It has a slight kick up in the front but the new chassis will get ride of that. I am going to keep it a truck..but lowered. Thanks.

Motor change - 05.06.2013, 10:26 AM

I took the extended GTP beast out for a test and tune session, working to dial in the steering and handling at high speeds as well as the aero principles of the XO-1 body and came to realization that I might be over geared for the Castle /Torx 2200. I initially had it geared at 24/51 and after about 10 minutes of running, I got the single red LED on the controller and no further movement. Batteries were warm, motor was less than warm but the fan was running. Re-geared to 20/51 on the same motor and pretty much got the same result after a few more runs, so I decided to swap out the Torx 2200 for the 1717 in the Mayhem 2.0. Still geared at 20/51...I hope to get better runs out of this combo. Here is a pic of the beast with the new motor.

Hmmm... the 2200 should have no problem spinning those gears.

I would check all the bearings and make sure of a bind free driveline.
