Hi All....will any 1/8 buggy tires/wheels fit my 3905 FLM Emaxx? Tower is having a sale on tires and wheels and...why not buy some right :)

As long as you have 17mm wheel hexes, yes they will fit.

The smaller diameter will greatly reduce your top speed. And the thinner width dramatically reduces the size of the contact patch with the ground, so you will have very little traction.

It looks cool, but turns your monster truck into a drift car.

Yeah, they also have truggy tires on sale too, just duratrax, but they are pretty good. They are basically VTR fakes, but probably just as good, and cheaper. I am using the rims on my Maxx now with VTR calibers from Proline and its good. I'm sure the xcons are good tires. Similar to Bowties.

Do the Duratrax tires fit normal VTR rims and vice versa?

I use a set of Proline VTR Holeshot M3s for the track, and while they are awesome I am terrified to ever let them touch pavement. I really do not want to spend that much money to destroy them in a single battery pack on pavement.

Which leaves me with an old set of 40 series crimefighters worn down to bare rubber, and another set of LPR Crimefighters. Neither were taped as I bought them mounted and they balloon like mad. The 40 series have been fixed so many times now they are out of balance and need to be stripped off the rims.

I really like the VTR style tire because the low profile keeps ballooning to a minimum, and when taped ballooning is eliminated almost entirely. The tire remains responsive to steering input and the truck doesn't get out of control from insane pizza cutter wheels.

But Proline doens't make a crossover tread, or on-road tire. And I'd hate to waste a set of VTRs like the calibers, holshots.

Does anyone use a tire truer? With most of my tires they aren't round and could use a truer....I've balanced three sets of my wheels (Dynamite balancer) and really don't see any difference. For instance I have a set of Proline Road Rage tires and they wobble all over the place... :(

Yes. You can mount Duratrax truggy rubber on Proline VTR wheels and VTR rubber on Duratrax truggy wheels or you can get the wheels and tires both from Duratrax and treat them like budget VTR. I run VTR calibers on my Duratrax truggy wheels. They are the same style. Superior to LPR. And of course I understand all the reasons you bring up.

I have never used a tire truer, I couldnt justify the price for its use, but now with VTR/buggy type tires for MT and truggy it is no longer a necessity like it was with big 40 series and higher side walls.

Granted I still like my 40s mashers, and I wish they were balanced.

aren't tire truers only for foam tires? Pretty sure they are just a lathe that lets you re-shape your foam tires.

Yep.

For rubber you want a balancer, but don't need a tire truer.

That makes sense...I'm in the auto repair business and I was likening to a road force machine...a lot of my tires are out of round...ok well.

Side note....what camber º do most recommend front/rear for MT...just for bashing NOT racing. I don't want to get my butt kicked by a bunch of 12 year old kids so I'm staying off the track! :)

Wont' matter all that much I don't think. Any camber you do have will be absorbed by the jello sidewall. But I think I have about 1* negative camber. As the truck leans outwards in turns the outside tires experience positive camber change. The more it leans, the more positive camber is introduced on the outside tires.

I don't run that much negative camber because I prefer my tires to last a long time at $100 a set. So I'll sacrifice the cornering.

I did a set up last night on my truck. One thing I have to say is I don't really care for the pillow ball set up! I wish someone created an entire different steering system!! I have a Hobbyco digital high output servo that I installed and removed the dual steering. It seems that if you put any excess tension on the cups that mate up to the pillow balls then the servo wont have enough power to turn the wheels. If the cups are too loose then your wheels are loose...seems like a constant fight! I was looking at Futaba brushless servos and wondering if they are worth the price. In reality they are only $50 more than a normal high output servo. I'm wondering if I get a servo with 300+ oz of power than maybe I can at least have the pillow ball cups secure (not tight but, secure). Others have to encounter this...what have you done?

white lithium grease between the pillow balls and retainers and loctite on the retainers so once you find the adjustment point you like it stays there.
