Hobao Hyper One Seven conversion. -
02.14.2013, 12:16 AM
Started in on the conversion after finally assembling the rest of the pieces.
RCM Hyper 7 mount
Diff conversion (probably change this out to a spool later since its on-road).
(2) 150x50mm trays.
CC 1717 1580kv / Mamba Max Monster.
6S 5000mah
Since i wanted to run a dual batttery setup like my truggy, I reversed the diff and also reversed the front/rear dogbones. Originally the engine was far back with a 160mm dogbone connecting the center diff to the front diff. I reversed this and used a Jammin X1 center CVA to allow enough room to mount up to 90mm long motors.
I spent a bit deciding on just where to put the battery trays. I mocked them up pretty close to the center driveshaft, but in the end I decided that it would be too difficult to lose the rear brace. Its such a long chassis, it needs the brace to stay stiff. I had thought of running a tie-rod from the rear bulk head to the center diff, and from the center diff to the front bellcrank brace. I may re-arrange it later.
Using the existing servo tray I'm going to cut a new piece of CF that will extend to the right/rear battery tray and bolt to it to add stiffness to the front portion of the chassis. This ray will also extend out a little beyond the chassis and I'll mount the ESC, BEC, and Rx there. Assuming I can cut the CF straight and not mar it up it should look pretty trick when done.
Don't know how much its going to come in at weight wise, but its already not what I'd consider a light weight. It may weigh more than the Jammin X1CRT truggy does when loaded for Bear with (2) 5000mah 3S batteries.
Tires right now are going to be an older set of GRP grandini's, but their small diameter limits me speed wise since I'm only running a 22t pinion. I should have ordered larger. But I based all my gearing calcs on a 4.5" tire, and forgot that the GRP's are only 3.8".

I had thought about shifting the diff a little further to the right side of the car to center the motor more and make the weight more central, but then I would have had to push the ESC and Rx further out, probably negating the advantages of of moving the driveline towards the center.
Would have also put the Dogbones at a larger angle so I decided it wasn't worth it. Its fairly centralized anyways and should be only a little heavier on the left overall.
So far its:
Left side: 567g motor + 441g battery = 1,008g
Right side: 64g servo, 15g Rx, 125g MMM, 441g battery = 645g.
But most of that is fairly close to the chassis center line so its not so bad.
Or maybe it is. Not sure how much of a difference it'll make. I'll have to see how it handles on the track. I still have plenty of room to drill new holes in teh chassis and move the motor over. I'll just lose the front chassis brace, so I'd have to run a tie-rod from the bellcrank top plate to the center diff.

3.85" OD tires, no ballooning. GRP MO-1 Rally tires.
13/43 diff
22t/46t gearing.
1580kv
6S
Max Speed 66.4mph on the GPS. I need a bigger pinion.
Which is actually really close. I was figuring the gearing with 3.8v/c in mind. I did these on a freshly charged pack.

Neighborhood kid did the video with my phone. I think its about as shaky as when I film and drive at the same time! But at least this way I could concentrate on actually driving the car. Max speed reached in the video was probably the same as the 66mph I recorded with my phone this morning.

That's a nice xo-1 killer!
Now you need an airstrip so you can open her up!

I'd really like to do the Spool conversion for it, along with switching out to a Nylon gear and putting a larger pinion on it. I need a 36t pinion with these tires to break 100mph on paper. In reality, not sure.
