Gearing for Hyper 7 - 05.27.2006, 02:57 PM

For my hyper 7 conversion, I'm going to make a change from my current set up. Which is an ofna 51t and 12t pinion. I'm thinking about using a Kyosho 44t spur gear. What pinion I should start out with? I'm hoping that the smaller spur gear will give me a little more room. I'll be using a 540c 9l and 4s packs and a Quark 125B. Thanks in advance.

Actually, when you go to a smaller spur, you have to go to a small pinion and it doesn't get much smaller. You might be better off with the 51 tooth and some pinions from tower hobbies since Mike doesnt have every tooth. Tower has every tooth from 9 to 13.

If you like the gearing of the 51 12. you would need to run a 10 44 for about the same gearing.

I actually do have a 10t gear in my collection so I will try that one I guess. One thing I didn't mention before is that I'm also switching from a 7xl to the 540c 9L. So that may come into play as well.

I would stick with the 51t spur either way and get a 11t and 13t pinion from Tower Hobbies to go with your 10 and 12t.

Well I think you going to need to drop the gearing with the 9l over 7xl. I not sure if you going to be able to go low enough if the 12 51 was good. I ran my 7xl with 14 51 gearin I think. maybe higher. It has been awhile since that.

It seems like others were using 14/51 gearing as well. I think I'm going to try 10/44. Hope it works. I need a little more space for my batteries.

I am running a fan cooled 8xl on 4s li ion in my hyper 7 and I am using 13/44. It is has gotten to 150 F without the fan.
I like 13/46 the best but I cant find any 46 tooth spurs for some reason.

IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE TO GET THE KYOSHO IF 148 PART IN THE USA PLEASE POST A LINK.
Thanks
