battery question for mini-t

stock battery is 7.2v. I was looking at Radio Shack the other day and saw 2400mAh 9.4v, BUT the exact same size as the Mini-t cells. And they are only $10. (clearance)

will a 9.4 do damage to a stock Mini-T????

Do you mean 9.6v? That would be an 8cell pack. Dont do it, the stock ESC cant handle that I believe. Just get a nice set of Gp1100 or IB1200, they got em here for only like 12.99 a pack. They'd run much better than those cheapie packs

They don't sound like they deliver punch, you are probably better of with using a decent 7.2V pack! (like the GP or the IB's)

Also consider a 2s lipo pack.
I purchased a Great Planes 2s 1500 8C pack over a year ago for my Mini-T. It works fine with the stock electronics. You just want to watch for when it starts to slow down, or better yet, get a low-voltage cutoff device.

Of course, this means you need a lipo charger, but if that's all you're using it for, you can get away with a $30ish 2-3 cell lipo charger. My 2s pack also works great with the Mamba 6800 system, which lets you know it'll handle an upgrade to the electronics as well.

why for a mini-t the truck only takes low Mah. like 1500's and not 3300's know what i mean.

They just don't fit that's all,mini batteries are mini.You'd still get good runtimes from 1500mah since they hardly pull an amps.

Yea, 1500mah is rather high for most mini trucks. Thats pretty good runtime to.

It's a matter of size due to energy density. Both nimh and lipo can fit a fixed amount of power in a fixed size.

Take IB (Intellect Battery) nimh, for instance. The standard sub-c size cell can hold 4200mah of power in that size cylinder. The 2/3A size cell is physically a smaller cylinder that will only hold 1200mah of the same power, simply because you can only fit a certain amount of power within a certain space.

If the Mini-T had the room to mount a sub-c size battery pack, you could definitely use 3300mah cells. It just lacks the physical space for it.

I know it's not the same truck but I've been running an 8cell in my 18T for about 3 months now. Not to say there is not going to be some issues but so far so good. Well except for that noisy diff.:005: Went from 27mph on the 6cell to 32mph on the 8cell.:027:
