Hey guys,

First post here. Coming from Traxxxas forum which was OK. Been reading here for a while now. Just got an emaxx a month or so ago and am getting very addicted. I know the questions I am going to ask have been covered several times but I cant seem to fig out what exactly I should be looking for. Well, first thing is I am looking for some opinions on brushless setups, with a goal of 55-60+ mph speed and an OK run time. Right now I am running on 14 IB3800 matched cells and its running ok (NO lipo's for now). Wheelies etc etc no problems but I still get smoked by stock nitro's (not 3.3). So can somebody suggest a combination of speed controller and motor that I wont have to spend an arm and a leg on. Also, what parts, would I need to upgrade along with the motor, esc etc coz I do want some realiability. I am a lil confused coz a lotta ppl are suggestion lots and lots of different setups, so I figured I'd post what exactly my goals are and may be somebody can straighten things out for me a bit.

Second, whats the best place to get cheap parts? lilke A-arms, bulk heads etc etc.

Well first off, welcome to the forums! I would suggest an Wanderer XL motor for sure, on 14 cells, a 6 would be required for those speeds, but there goes runtime. Have you ever seen or driven an rc going 55 mph? It's rather hard to control for anybody. I think 45 would be a good possible goal and you would still have decent runtimes. Like I said, For those speeds on that few of cells, a 6XL would probably be get you close but it would run rather hot. If your running Titans, a 8XL would be a HUGE jump. If I were you, thats what I would go for. 8XL and a Quark 125 or a Warrior 9920. As for upgrades, a steel idler, cvd's, and a Strobe slipper would be required. Your diffs would go out pretty quick as well. I would recommend the FLM hybrid bulks if you plan on getting aluminum bulkheads anyway. The hybrids incorperate the bulkheads into the diff cases. It makes for a stronger, lighter combo. The hybrids with Hot Bodies Lightning Stadium diffs would be a good, affordable option. Right here is your best bet for parts. If Mike doesn't have it in the store, chances are he has it or can get it.

Thanks for the quick reply squee. So if I got it right, if I run a 8XL and a 9920, it would run a lil cooler..!!!!. I think I'll be ok around 45mph for a while, after that, I KNOW, I'll want more. :(

I've read that the robinson slipper clutch is pretty good...is that something that I should go for..!!! Do you recommend any particular brand as far as steel idlers, cvd (that arent so hard to work with...i.e, MIP)??

UE cvd's, RC-Monster steel idler, and a Strobe slipper with mod1 pinions that Mike sells. It would also require a Ofna 51T spur. And yes, it will run cooler and more efficient.

excuse my ignorance, but what are the differences (speed wise) in 9xl and 8xl..!!!! Also, I dont really want to upgrade the stock servo, unless I have to..!! Is that ok with the above mentioned setup..?? and how many minutes (avg) run time we are looking at, with 14 IB3800's? I know it also depends on the way I drive, so I am askin for avg.

To be honest, a servo upgrade should be one of the first things you do. I would say ~45 with the 8XL and maybe a little slower with the 9XL. I didn't say anything about the Robinson because the Strobe is far superior and thats what I would suggest. I had the Robinson and upgraded to the Strobe very soon after because its alot better and allows you to set a degree of slip.

Squee, will the Futaba S3305 hi-torque standard w/ metal gears and ball bearings be enough to make a SuperMaxx steer?

Would the 9920 and 8xl be ok with 14 cells..!!!! Whats the max I could use with it..!!!!

Yes, it would be good on 14 cells. You could go up to about 20 cells but it would run kinda hot.

Here's the specs:
speed: 0.25 sec/60 degrees at 4.8v
0.20 sec/60 degrees at 6v
torque: 124 oz-in (8.9 kg-cm) at 6v
99 oz-in (7.1 kg-cm) at 4.8v
