Very disappointed -
07.17.2006, 09:45 PM
Ok, so after the programming. I ran the Quark 125b/1930 10t. It runs waaaay tooo hot, it reminds me of the hv maxx. run two min, stall, run two min, stall all because of this heat issues. I have a huge fan on this thing and even the motor wires are heating up. never had that prob with my 9920 even! I figure heat sinks would be ok, then a fan maybe two? My gearing is 12/51, that's pretty low already, i have too much torque as it is. anywho, just thought i would put that out there. IMO, this is not the best esc out there. sorry guys!:035:

Wow. Sorry to hear about your misfortune! I can't understand what the problem would be, especially since you added a heatsink and fans! Maybe you got a bum ESC?

I don't have the heat sink yet, but i have a 40mm fan! thing is huge! I think heat sinks would help, but i don't think for long!
How long can you run yours before it stalls or thermals? I mean, even my wires eventually get warm! Honestly, i think the esc is fine, it runs butter smooth, that part i like, this thing heats up like it's on stove! just like my Novak HV maxx used to do.

Mine only got to about 140ish. I didn't like that and now it sits at right around 125F. It never thermals. Of course, I haven't run it while it was 100F outside, so I'm sure that will make a difference.

Are you sure you don't have some binding or resistence in your truck? Sorry if it has been said before, but if nothing else helps, its in the truck, i have learned this the hard way before.
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Since he was running fine with his 9920, I doubt it, but it's possible I suppose. Even so, that low gearing should compensate for all but bad drivetrain drag!

My drive train is great! My 10xl/9920 only got hot when i used my 20T pinion, my 18T pinion was great! But my drive train has no binding at all. I spent two weeks adjusting it over and over. When i did my UE diffs, i made sure! trust me a couple hundred dollars in diffs alone, and the the UE cvd's, all that, i made sure. with the quark, i checked a triple checked all my connections. if i doubted them, i redid them using 3 sets of deans! It's the controller, my motor is great! temps are real low, lower than my 10xl even!
BrainG - so you can run consistantly? i just bashed around lightly and it thermalled! I don't see how anyone can run Lipo with these at all!

I don't run Lipo (yet). Until I get some, I am running 14 cells on a 10XL. The Revo is quite light at around 9 pounds.

there it is. i run a emaxx on 16 cells 1930/10T, fast as hell with the 12T pinion, faster than my 10xl/9920. but my truck is about 11lbs tops, if that even. I don't get it though, my motor is cool as hell, my esc is hot enough to cook an egg on it!
Are you going to the bash?

That weight difference shouldn't mean that much - 11 pounds isn't that heavy. BTW: I'm running 40T spur/ 15T pinion with stock Revo tranny locked in 2nd. The weight I quoted was with a lipo pack I've been eyeing. With 14 GP cells, it's more like 10ish pounds.
According to Batfish's "Is my motor too hot" sticky, hot ESC, cool motor means overgeared, but you said you are undergeared if anything. That's odd. What are your battery temps like? If JUST the ESC gets that hot, there may be something wrong with it.
No, I can't make it to the bash. I'll just have to sit here and mope. It would've been cool to meet the people you talk to on here. There should be a picture thread where people can post pics of themselves. But I digress...

so is that how every one is running the quark...is on these really light trucks....so it seems like if you have a semi heavy truck, the quark will not work...that really sucks ...and I don't think he has any binding issues......I think the quark will not work with a emaxx very well...good choice on the motor though....glad you like it man.,...

To improve torque/acceleration and decrease temperatures, you'd go to lower gearing, but like brian said...your pretty low as is....

Maybe you could try a little higher?? It seems to low of gearing with the UE diffs. Seems like it should be like a 14T.

yeah, i'm runnin 12t/51t, my batts are way cool too. just my esc! i bought the 12020 though, i'm not going thru this again like i did with the HV Maxx. It's the whole reason i came here! My 9920/10xl has been very good! I love the motor Leroy sold me too. But i'm selling the Quark after two 1/2 runs on it. the bash is coming soon and i want to be ready. And it seems nothing is going to fix this heat issue with these. Anywho, i'm done with it, had it for 3 days! :mad:1:mad:1:mad:1:mad:1:mad:1:mad:1:mad:1:mad:1:m ad:1

Here's a stupid question. Are you using a ubec with the Quark? The Quark bec will overheat if it is used with 16 cells.
