FLM Extended EMaxx Center driveshaft

All,
I haven't seen any posts that wonder why the FLM Extended EMaxx chassis only comes with one center driveshaft. Is the idea to just keep the stock shaft on the back and use the extended driveshaft dogbone in the front? Seems like it should come with two dog bones and cups unless the assumption is that folks have already installed a stock-length center driveshaft kit for front and rear. If that is the case, then one would only need a new dogbone to cover the extra chassis length???

As for me, I bought CVDs for the front and rear wheels, but not for the center because I thought it came with the FLM Extended chassis kit.... but I'm just an OldSoldier...what do I know. :032:

The one that comes with the chassis is for the rear. The rear takes alot of the punishment and most have upgraded to.

What should I order to upgrade the front-center drive shaft given that I'm about to install the FLM Extended chassis and the Feigo 9L Brushless motor with Quark 80 Brushless controller??

You will need a 70 mm shaft or dogbone with drive cups. If you email mike he can hook you up with the right ones.

You are most likely going to have thermal issues with the quark 80 its a bit small for your application. Even the 125's have thermal issues unless they are run with heatsinks and or fans.

Thanks for the advice guys... Guess I should have spent the extra money and gotten the Quark 125 and the Feigao 9XL. Well, too late now. I'll have to make do. So far, I added a heat sink to the Feigao motor (went cheap with the standard Traxxas $5 heat sink).

I also took Sqee's advice and changed the gearing to 16/66. I Definitely see a difference with less heat in the motor and less heat on the speed control. :027: BUT the insane speed I was getting with the 18/66 gearing is also gone :019:

Its still better than the original twin titans, and MUCH longer run times using a pair of 7.4V 6000mAH batteries.:018:

I use the UE Supermaxx Ti 105mm shaft on the back and I believe its a 70mm on the front with my FLM chassis. They are the best ones made.

I used the 100.5 mm shaft for rear. The 105 was for the lightning and flm chassis. The 70 mm works for front.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I just finished rebuilding my E-Maxx into SoldierMaxx with the FLM chassis. I used the standard Traxxas u-joint style drive shaft in the front and the one that comes with the FLM chassis on the rear. I haven't done any testing on the track yet, but it's doing well on the street and in the grass.. I'll post a few pics when I get a chance.

I made a mistake when I said my gearing was 18/66 above...it was actually 18/72 (I thought I had a 66-tooth spur gear...turned out when I disassembled the truck that it was a 72-tooth gear.

I'm now testing (emphasis on the word test) with motor/speed-control unfriendly setup of 20/66 just to see how far I can push the Feigo 9L and the Quark 80B Speed control. I'm running topless for now since I'm just testing and I have not painted my new Hummer body for it yet. Running topless should help protect against overheating for now. :013:
