So many questions -
09.19.2006, 07:24 AM
Hey all, I'm building E-Revo and I have a bunch of questions. I have G2R conversion kit and single speed conversion. Front and rear ends are coming. I have been thinking the motor esc combo and it's quite hard to make up my mind what to choose. I'm pretty sure that esc will be MGM 120 amp or 160 amp version. Another option is Quark Monster Pro. Recomendations? Motor is more difficult to pic, I would like to try Lehner 1940/8, but its a bit expensive... Also I have been looking BK Wanderer 20XL motors and Lehner basic XL motors, but witch one is good. What about gearing? I'm gonna use 2 7,4 V maxamp 8000 mAh or 2 7,4 V 12000 mAh Lipos, so Amps should not be the problem. What I want is smooth and cool driving with good run times. I'm open for suggestions.
Another issue is ubec, I need one if I'm going to use MGM esc, what about with Quark?
I'd like to make E-revo quite light weight so I'm gonna use only one steering servo. Whitch one is good enough? Also tires and wheels are open, I was thinking Bowtie/Wabash, is there better choise for light weight setup? I bought my E-maxx transmission used, so I don't have spur or slippery on it, is this any good: http://www.carttonic.com/catalog/ind...=0,10328,10502

first off, welcome! i run a lehner and it is a very fine motor. if you can scrape the cash together buy one. i own a quark and a bk warrior, and neither is perfect. out of the two, i pick warrior. the quark CAN'T handle 6s lipo and doesn't want to handle the 5s lipo i'm force feeding it! most of the lucky people that spent the money for one and are having good results are running 4s lipo, so maybe you'll be lucky. you should be ok on either battery combo. i use a bec on the quark, but i run more voltage. i would say run one to be safe. most like the hitec 5955tg servo. 333oz of torque will turn anything! i run this an my g2r and my jammin and it is the best servo i've owned! bowtie/wabash or crimefighters/wabash will work well. as far as a slipper goes, i think that slipper will be ok if you can't get a strobe setup. i run the strobe and it works well on a g2r with 1950/8 and 6s lipo. i'm sure you'll get more opinions, be patient!

lehner motors are very durable, i ran a 1920/8t in my emaxx for almost 5 1/2 years....very strong & durable motor...but it finally went to its grave at the bash in august...R.I.P.....but they are worth the money.trust me

I run the quark on 5s lipo....no probs with it. But the esc is up to you. If you get the quark, get a neu, they are way efficient and help run the controller cooler too. Otherwise, cost wise, you could get a 12020/9xl feigo, ultimate ubec, and if you go lipo, get a lvc.
The tranny should be fine, not sure about the slipper, i would get a strobe if you can find one.....gearing depends on what you run as a motor and batteries, weight, diffs etc....

I'm running that slipper, and its worked fine so far. Just remember to recheck all the screws and readjust the tension after a run or so. I lost 2 of the three screws holding it together.
Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES

I did that once in my maxx. :) I also didn't adjust the slipper after a run, ran a second time and melted the pads so bad, they stuck to the plates! good advice JThiessen!

Remember to use Blue Loc-Tite on the slipper screws when you assemble it the first time and check the spring tension as previously mentioned. I'd run it on the tight side. Should work pretty well. Mine has been trouble free.

I used the red loc tite. I run also run the slipper on the tight side, but I noticed that if you have it toooo tight, you tend to break more pins on the upper shaft. Cheap to replace yes, but a PITA IMO!

Thanks for everyone for advices! So, if I'm going with Lehner 1940/8 and 4s lipo, 120 A esc is enough? What about with Bk 20XL7 or Feigao XL9? Neu would be nice, but quite hard to get from Europe.... I think I'll go with BK Wanderer or Feigao at first, but if it doesn't work the way I like, I'll get the Lehner. So, whitch one is better, Feigao XL or BK 20XL? Windings? Gearing? I don't need awful top speed, maybe 35-40 mph is enough. I can get the strobe slipper the same store where I purchased G2R, maybe I'll try it...

I think the strobe part, make sure they have in stock! the feigo xl's are good. you could go 8 or 9xl with 4s lipo and be fine. you could get the MGM 120 should work grood.

Here is my opinion....Go with the Quark 125B and a Neu 1515 on 4S LiPo. With the Quark, you don't need a LVC. Also, get a UBEC no matter what. It will make your esc run cooler and smoother as well. If you don't want a Neu, get a Feigao C XL or Wanderer XL. I would choose the Feigao because it has a built in heatsink and I just plain don't like blue :p.
By the way, as far as rims/tires/servo, go with Crime Fighter MT tires or Bowtie MTR tires with zero offset 23mm rims with Dace adapters and a Hitec 5955. I don't think it gets better than the Hitec servos.
