Pics of balooning tires. - 04.02.2005, 01:24 AM

Which tire do you guys think would be better for a top speed run, the tire on the right or the one on the left?
My guess is the one on the right just because it has a dual contact patch as apposed to a single contact patch in the middle. Let me know what you think.
Btw, that is only about half throttle.
Here's the pic

i like the pic, i think proline bowties would be good for a high speed run, show us a pic with fulll throttle :)

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

I am at a loss -i have never seen the dual ( right ) contact patch - have you driven that on on the road yet? - I would be interested to hear the comments - It am purely speculating on this one - but wouldnt it be harder to control with 2 little contact patches rather than one larger one ? - i have no idea...

I think the single contact patch tire will be the better option (left side). The one on the right looks like the two "contact patches" are slightly different in size, so you may actually only have one smaller contact patch on the road under full power/speed.

You need to use duct tape that goes inside the tire. Works like a charm!! I have got some movies of this modification;

here is the movie without the tape

And this is the one with tape.

The thing with balooning tires on a non centerdiff MT is this;

The front tires get bigger than the rear tires when you drive it, Once this happens, that difference in diameter will put A LOT! of stress on your drivetrain, and it also takes a lot of energy from your setup. Plust the truck gets very unstable on high speeds...

Here is the balooning of my savage tires, with a bit too high gearing..

and this was what happend when driving that truck once.. i must say; Those tires are extremely soft!

Holy cow! I didnt know it made that much of a difference.
How many times are you supposed to wrap the tape around the tire?
Thanks.

can you confirm the steps to doing this? I heard the trick was to turn the tire inside out and place it on the foam insert before wrapping the tire with the duct tape.

When that tire come apart. did it pop serum? I had one blow apart to. It popped when it let go. Almost like it had air in it. I still want to try that duct tape trick.

Peace!

I'll try it too, next time I glue some rubbers.

Hey Serum, this pic with the balloning tires on your Plettage... wow, must have been a really fast camera. The tires are not even slightly blurred.
