Lunsford 1/8th e-maxx turnbuckle conversion -
10.17.2006, 03:55 PM
The thing i am interested in;
are those titanium ballstuds any good? i can imagine a hard steel screw and an ordinary ball would be stronger? anyone has got an experience with these?
I was wondering if they tend to break easily..

If you're gonna use them with your maxx and with brushless, then I would stick with the steel ones. They'll eatup some weight, but they're surely not as strong as steel.

Ciao Serum,
as you know, I got them some times ago, but I still did not have time to try them.
I surely will make you know about them (the ballstuds and the ballstuds hands).
Just looking at them, they seem to me to be less "sloppy" than the UE ones.
Ciao,
Daniele

Okay, thanks Daniele. i hoped you had them on and tested them.
@captain;
Yes, i am building up another maxx.
It will be a nice one with pretty much titanium. Arms, skids, shocktowers, etc..
So far i like the weight
with UE 8spiders, and without the shocks/centergearbox, it's weight is 1615 gramm. My revo (in the same condition, but with shocks and in allmost complete stock form with CF g2r) weights 1735 gramm

Nice!
With the ball studs, the turnbuckles will tend to pop out easier than the screw/ball style where its quite hard to make the turn buckle come out easily.
Stick with the screw/ball style.

Well, which are you leaning towards the most?
Ball studs or screw/ball?

Ball studs, eversince they are included with the 1/8th kit.
That's why i was asking for user experiences with the ball studs. if a person had them, drove of a stairs and broke them, they don't seem worth the money to me.

Here's my resolution:
" Screw/ball style waaaaay tougher than ball studs".
I tell you the truth, I've never liked the idea of the ball studs since the trunbuckle is held from one place only, but when you use a long screw with steel ball and scure them with a nut from the other side nothing will break them.
For me, only Tamiya was able to make the ballstud thing acceptable. Most of their old highend buggies used the screw/ball to hold the turn buckles, but I dont know why they've preferred the ball studs nowadays.
