Savage brushless conv. What's the best? - 10.21.2006, 10:22 PM

I purchased a 2nd Savage with the intention of converting it to a brushless system. What is the best motor/esc/lipo comb out there for the savage?

Thanks!
Tom

Hi Tom!

a very nice setup is an MGM24160 with a Neu 1515 with 1700Kv, with 6S lipo (good cells, such as 6S2P 4000 maxxamps) you will pull the pants of your nitro savage..

One thing... Beef up your drivetrain....

Tom

You could do a Mamba Max esc with a Feigao 8XL on 4s lipo.

Yeah, and if you go maxamps, you need to take a 4S2P setup.

A single 4S2P? Doesn't the 8XL and 9XL like 21-24volts? A 4S will only get me 14.8v or 16.8 fully charged. Is that enough? Isn't the Muba max only rated at 2-3 lipos? Maybe I'm looking at the wrong one. Correct me if I'm wrong....I'm only trying to figure this stuff out. I don't want to order the wrong stuff!

Thanks again,
Tom

the mamba-maxx is proven tough for 4S lipo, if you use an external BEC. the 8XL likes 4S lipo. The 7XL would be a good choice too, but it is kind of a hot motor allready.

I had nice speeds/temperatures with my lightweight maxx on 3S lipo with the 7XL.

I had a fiego 10l and bk warrior 9920 in my savage, and I could flip from the go. Pretty decent run times too. Right now I am beeging it back up from drivetrain blow outs while it had the 10l to put a 7 or 8 xl I can't remember which one I got.

Hope this is helpful

Thanks!
This is my plan: Muba Max ESC, Feigao 8XL, and 4S2P LIPO. Regarding the LIPO......does anyone see any issues with getting two MaxAmps Lipoly 8000mah 2S2P 7.4V Packs in series?

Thanks,
Tom

No. Just be sure to use a UBEC on the Mamba.

No, you'll want to gear down probably. I would try 15/66 or so.

brushless e savage - 01.09.2007, 09:05 PM

I have a E-Savage and i am going brushless. I have the merchandise purchased tell me if i made the right decision. I am very green when it comes to this. I have a Fiagao 5409xl motor and a warner 7020 controller does this sound good or no? any comments would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums! You have a good motor, but the esc is a bit on the edge.. A 9920 would be better suited for a savage, though a 7020 with a fan would be alright.

How many cells are you running? Did you also get a UBEC?

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL
