ok i dont know how to post links so go to stormerhobbies.com on the main page there is a gigantic heat sink with fan on top click and read up on it, it maybe worth it to people with motor heat issues, f it fits on standard size l or xl motors

That is something you put on the motor before you run it, but not during the run. For one thing, it looks heavy. And for another, it uses a peltier junction device to lower the temps to below ambient. These are used in those cheap mini fridges you see for campers and such and works by current passing through it makes one side cold and the other hot. And since it consumes 4A @ 12v, it would reduce runtime considerably if you ran it off batteries.

This seems to be a better solution to say water cooling. Water cooling works well but seems like it would add too much weight.

I have two TECs laying around. I really have to come up with a use for them. I was thinking about doing this as a third channel. Have any of you ever played around with a thermoelectric cooler? They are fantastic devices.

TECs are great, but they really don't move much heat. I doubt they'd be able to keep up with a motor.

I like these devices too, but not where the required current could affect runtime. The one in the link is 12v and 4A. That's 48w of power robbed from your batteries if you run it while racing. Then, not only do you have to shed the heat pulled from the motor, you also have to get rid of the heat generated from the device itself.

But if you use it in bursts it cools one side and heats the other. With a heatsink and a fan you could keep motor temps way down. As far as running it during a race, probably a bad idea. It could be a fun little project for a basher, though.

Bah, I'd rather just use a larger heatsink if I was having heat issues. Or even a fan despite my not liking them. IMO, it would take too much time and power to cool a motor with those to make a difference.

I guess if you have some of those already, you could experiment. Nothing to lose...

I ordered some 80 Watt tecs from Ebay.. foot print seems small.... only 40mm x 40mm x 3.2mm.. advertised that it iced up in 30 seconds...Probably @ max load/setting... I would run a seperate battery pack to it.. probably A123s, since they charge very fast... and might just run 6 or 9 volts off of it... The picture looks like that both sides get cold.. I wouldn't want it to freeze.. but it should be better than cooling it... I'm gonna shave a heatsink off the motor and ESC to see how it runs... and might put a 3rd channel switch to turn it on when motor temps gets hot...

Agreed, it's like trying to make a solution to a problem that is already solved.... a better motor (Neu motor). A heat problem (for motors) should never get to the point of going to extreme ends to try and cool it... heck this is what electric is about, efficiency!

A neu motor can put out over 2 times the power as a Feigao motor and stay within temp. (continuous power wise)

The Peltier Device is a cheap inefficient way to move a small amount of heat at a rather large cost of electricity.

If they were really good at moving BTU's of heat, our AC units and all of refrigeration would be based on it.

Disregarding the weight expense, and the energy expenses involved, I say "Baaah Humbug" to it even keeping up with the heat being generated in a hot running motor in operation.

Don't mean to sound rude, but if this is "Does it work or does it not work", my vote goes for "It don't work"
