What to do... - 01.14.2007, 08:42 PM

Ok, I'm sort of in a pickle here...

I have my BL LSP with a 9xl and 5s(one 2s and one 3s) 4000 maxamps lipos. I am very happy with the power. I also have a BL rc10gt and I share lipos between the two cars now, and it gets kind of annoying. Also to charge the batts with my Duretrax Ice I have to charge one at a time, and that takes a long time. I think I would like to buy more lipos for my LSP, either 8k or 10k. So here's what I came up with:

Situation 1:
Get new charger (mrc 989) $140
10k single 5s pack (maxamps) $260
Keep 9xl

Total: $400:019:

Situation 2:
Keep my Duratrax Ice
8k single 4s pack $220
Get new motor 7xl or 8xl to run 4s on $90 (don't think 9xl would be too powerful on only 4s, what do you think?)

Total: $310

Also how would run times be with the 7 or 8xl with 8k lipos? I get about 30-35 min. with my 9xl 5s 4k setup...

Thanks!

Bye:018:

So, could I gear up? or something else?

Anyone run a 7xl or 8xl on 8000 mah 4s lipo? how was the power and runtime?

Thanks!

Hey, I got a couple more questions.

If I get a 4s 10k lipo and I charge it on my Ice at 8 amps, how long would it take? Hour and 20 min.? Also, how would the Neu 1512 2.5d/f do in my LSP on 4s-5s lipo?

Thanks!

To fully get it charged I would say close to an 1.5 hr. Cause it slows down as it gets closer to max input.

(will the neu work)good. i would go for ice and 2 8000mah they will be lighter and have a good amount of runtime 40/45 minutes and a 8xl should work just fine but heatsink is needed and a fan wount hurt.

What are everyones opinion on a good motor for 4s?

7xl or 8xl?

Neu 1512 2.5d/f or Neu 1515 1y/F

1940 7/8?

Has any one run the 1512 in a buggy/truggy before? If so, how did it do? I really like the Neu 1512 2.5, light and powerful. How would it compare to an xl motor?

Thanks again:018:

Well, in your first post, I would do option one. And an 8xl will give you better run time on 4s than a 7xl. The 9xl would do fine, just gear it up. 9xl is better on 5s though for more speed. the 989 can do two packs at once in series. This would be your best route. More money yes, but your frustration would soon end in all. Plus you would still have your Ice if needed to charge individual packs. Also, I would say a 10K would take more than 1.5 hours! more like 1 / 45min to 2. Like CHC said, the charge will slow as you get closer to the max voltage. With a 10k, that would be a lot.
the Neu would do great, but you need a controller that can do the 4 pole. Although, not sure how it would do on 4s???

I already have a quark 125, so running a 4 pole is not a problem...

I have $540 right now, but my parents are making me put $300 in the bank:031: I think my ideal setup right now would be the neu 1512/2.5d on 4s 8k lipos...

I think id stick with the ice and get the 8K pack.

You could run the 9xl on 4s, and just gear up. Im running a 1950/7T motor (really low turn) on 4s geared at 16/44 and im yet to test it (damn snow!).

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

I will probably get the 4s 8k lipos soon. I could gear it 18/46 (already have the gears)

18/46 on 4s gives me around 38mph (Brian's speed calc.)

15/46 on 5s gives ma around 39mph

(motor is a 9xl with batts at 3.7v)

I tried brians calculator and it gave me 39mph with a lehner 1950/7, 3.7V (4 cells) geared 16/44. Sounds alright for now. Might get another 2s pack for 6s, but will be too much for the track!

For sure, 6s is almost too much IMO, I think 5s with a 9xl is pretty sketchy at times. Its funny how much more power we brushless users have over the nitro heads:005: ...

It is! :)

Look at us, saying we have too much power, when all those nitro guys are saying "damn man, this 18os tm motor is WEAK." :) For us we just add more batteries. :D

The 1512 2.5d is a good motor for a emaxx.
I get good run times as well.
I have run from 4s to 6s on it as well. It warms up on 6s but not real bad.
I would buy it again for sure.

Peace!
