I am about to order a 7xl, 9920 and UBEC from Mike and need to sort out what to do with my gear set up.
Do I stay 32p and use the 72,70 or 66 that I already have? If so would a 20 tooth pinion be too high?
I see the Strobe slipper using an Ofna 51 tooth spur, what pinion would be ok with the 7xl on 12 cells? And do I need slipper pads?
Obviously there are varying strength set ups for various applications.
Can someone suggest an appropriate set up for what I'll be running?
I assume this is in a E-maxx?
What do you use your car for, racing, bashing, speed runs?
I have the strobe, ofna 51T, 13T pinion and 7xl in my E-maxx with 12 and 14 cells (I'll probably go to all 14 cell packs though).
My strobe slipper came with pads, but I ordered a spare set anyway.
Not sure about staying 32p, I haven't tried. I went Mod 1 to be safe.
When is was ordering my set up Mike recommended to me 14/51 or 15/51 for racing and 12cells (with stock diff ratio). And 12/51 or 13/51 on 14 cells. I got the 13T, because 14 and 15 were out of stock.
51T/14T is about the same as 66/18, and 51/15 is the same as 68/20, if you stay with 32p.
Hope that helps a bit. Though it depends on what you want your car to do.
I'm not really sure how fast it is.
With 12 cells on the 7xl and 51t/13t gearing it's a bit faster than 14 cells on titan's with 66t/20t (Traxxas says 30mph with 66/18 and 14 cells I think), but with better acceleration. 13t pinion is a little bit too small on 12 cells imo.
14 cells on the 7xl is noticably faster than 12 cells, couldn't say how much though. 51t/13t seems ok on 14 cells for my track. But I'd like to try a 14t when I can get one, and when I get my new Quark. Other one burnt out last week. It was 2 weeks old.
